About the Department

The Neurology Department is one of three internal medicine inpatient wards at Trelleborg Hospital. Here, we work in cross-professional teams with the patient at the center. We care for patients with various neurological conditions. At our ward, you will primarily encounter stroke and TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) patients from the acute phase through to the beginning of the rehabilitation phase. The department also handles acute stroke alarms with the possibility of thrombolysis treatment. We value stroke competence within the team; therefore, we offer an annual stroke competence training scheduled during working hours, which lasts for one year for new employees.

As a smaller hospital, we work closely with our MAG-team to care for patients further along in their care journey before they are transferred to a higher level of care. This contributes to increased acute care competence. A ward-adjacent clinic is attached to the department where follow-up care takes place for patients treated for TIA and stroke. Patients staying in the ward are welcome to attend day rehabilitation after discharge if needed. Here, training is performed individually or in groups, guided by the patients' needs and wishes. We also have close cooperation with the hospital's outpatient clinic for neurological patients.

As a new nurse, you will receive a six-week introduction period with regular check-ins to assess your progress in basic neurological knowledge and departmental routines.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include standard nursing duties on the care ward. You will collaborate closely with other nurses, the rehabilitation team, nursing assistants, doctors, medical secretaries, and pharmacists. You and your colleagues are the best advocates to ensure the patient receives good, safe, and personalized care. As an employee here, you have significant involvement in how care is delivered.

We tailor your introduction and training plan individually based on your previous experience. At our department, staff, the unit responsible physician, and team leaders are involved in the onboarding of new employees and actively work on continuously reviewing routines. We strive to stay updated with evidence and development. We can offer you introduction to the area or more advanced training in stroke/neurology, depending on your current level.

We work systematically to develop competencies broadly and collaborate within the hospital both between units and business areas. We actively work on implementing person-centered care (PCC) in all units. The hospital offers numerous development opportunities in the form of internal training and projects, including an educational wheel with a different focus each month throughout the year.

Qualifications

We welcome you if you are a registered nurse with the eligibility to work in Swedish healthcare. Proficiency in Swedish corresponding to at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe scale is a requirement. We welcome both those with extensive nursing experience and those at the beginning of their career.
