Hospitals in the West is an administration within the Region of Västra Götaland and consists of four hospitals – Alingsås Hospital, Angered Primary Care Hospital, Högsbo Primary Care Hospital, and Kungälv Hospital. Approximately 3,000 employees work with us every day to provide good, safe, and high-quality specialist healthcare.

At the emergency department in Kungälv, you are a key person in the care chain. Here you will encounter a high pace, varied tasks, and close collaboration with healthcare staff – all with a focus on patient safety and quality.

We are at the forefront of constantly developing administrative tasks. Some of our core values are patient safety, collaboration, and development.

The secretaries at the emergency departments of Kungälv Hospital and Alingsås Hospital belong to the same unit and have close and tight collaboration. Currently, 13 medical secretaries work in Kungälv and 4 in Alingsås.

An administrative unit manager is responsible for all of them.

About the position

As a medical secretary at the emergency department, you are a central part of our operations. Your main tasks include:

  • Medical record documentation and diagnosis coding (DRG).
  • Printing and handling of referrals, letters, certificates, and other correspondence.
  • Patient registration, cash handling/reception work.
  • Ambulance reception/registration.
  • Real-time documentation during alarms.
  • Statistics and quality work.
  • Telephone service.
  • Documentation of meeting minutes.
  • Mail handling and many other stimulating administrative tasks.

We expect that more new tasks will gradually land on the medical secretaries' desks.

The work is performed in shifts, which means day, evening, and weekend work. Two of the secretaries work exclusively at night, planned over a period of approximately one year.

We are looking for you who:

  • Are trained as a medical secretary.
  • Are meticulous and structured.
  • Are responsible, thrive in a high-paced environment, and are flexible regarding working hours, tasks, and placement location if needed.
  • See business development as a natural part of daily work and are positive towards new tasks.
  • Are a team player who understands taking shared responsibility together with colleagues for daily work.
  • Are cheerful, positive, and service-oriented.

Qualifications

  • A two-year University College degree (YH) or equivalent higher education as a medical secretary is required.
  • Very good Swedish in speech and writing, and good knowledge of medical terminology are required.
  • Knowledge and experience with Melior, Medspeech, and ELVIS are required.
  • Good IT skills are required.
  • Training in diagnosis classification and experience with DRG coding are meritorious.
  • Experience working as a medical secretary at an emergency department is meritorious.
  • Since the role involves travel between Kungälv Hospital and Alingsås Hospital, having a driver's license is meritorious.
  • Great importance is attached to personal suitability.
