About Us
Umeå District Court is one of five district courts in Sweden that also serves as a Land and Environment Court. The court has approximately 85 employees, of whom currently more than 35 work at the Land and Environment Court. The court reviews decisions under, among other things, the Environmental Code, the Land Formation Act, and the Planning and Building Act. It also handles first-instance cases concerning permits for environmentally hazardous activities and water operations. The jurisdiction of the Land and Environment Court covers the entire county of Norrbotten, the majority of Västerbotten county, and a smaller part of Västernorrland county.
The Role
As a Reporting Judge (Föredragande jurist), you will work on preparing cases, conducting legal investigations, presenting cases for decisions, acting as the court reporter during oral hearings, drafting proposals for judgments and decisions, and deciding simpler cases independently. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the court's judge-jurists, technical advisors, and court administrators.
Who You Are
You must hold a law degree and be eligible for the position of Notary (notariemeriterad) when the position starts. We place great emphasis on legal expertise, judgment, and teamwork skills. Knowledge of the court's legal fields and procedural law is valuable, as is a genuine interest in the court's areas of operation. You enjoy taking personal responsibility for driving cases toward a decision and prefer to act as the central hub in contacts within and outside the court. We will place significant weight on personal qualities.
Employment Terms
This is a permanent position starting with a six-month probationary period. The role involves some travel with overnight stays. The Swedish Courts apply individual salary setting. Start date is by agreement.
Regarding Your Application
Your application should consist of a CV, a cover letter, certificates from the law programme, and a certificate or reference from your notary service. If you are currently undergoing notary service, please provide a reference from the court instead.
