University of Gothenburg meets society's challenges with versatile knowledge. With 58,000 students and 6,800 employees, the university is a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future.
The Department of Clinical Sciences is one of six departments at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. Research and education are conducted at the department with a focus on human health and quality of life. The department conducts clinical research and education in close collaboration with Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
The Department of Pediatrics conducts research in translational and experimental medicine with a special focus on the mechanisms behind neurological diseases and the development of relevant model systems to understand disease processes at the cellular level. The activity is characterized by interdisciplinary collaboration between clinical and preclinical research.
The current research group works with human-derived iPS cells to model CACNA1A-associated neurological disease in vitro. The goal is to develop and apply advanced cell models to study disease mechanisms and create conditions for future drug testing.
Laboratory work is carried out in the Smedler Laboratory, where relevant cell lines and laboratory resources are available (http://www.smedlerlab.org).
Job Responsibilities
The job responsibilities include laboratory work within a research project focusing on iPS cell-based modeling of CACNA1A-associated neurological disease. The tasks involve culturing, handling, and experimental processing of human-derived iPS cells, as well as molecular biological and cell biological methods relevant to the project's implementation.
Additionally, the role includes documentation of experiments, quality assurance of laboratory processes, compilation of results, and practical participation in method development. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the research group and requires a good ability to work both independently and structured in a laboratory environment.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biomedicine, or another area assessed as equivalent by the employer is required for the position. The applicant must have documented experience in laboratory work and good ability to express themselves verbally and in writing in English.
Previous experience with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells), neuronal disease modeling, calcium channel diseases, and relevant molecular biological methods is meritorious. Experience in laboratory activities within the environment of Sahlgrenska University Hospital or a nearby academic research environment is also considered an advantage.
Great importance will be attached to personal suitability. The applicant should be meticulous, responsible, have good collaboration skills, and a documented interest in translational laboratory-based research.
