We are looking for emergency and enhanced foster homes!

Lidköping Municipality is now seeking engaged and stable families who, on behalf of the social services, wish to make a significant contribution to children and young people in need of placement outside the home in a loving, safe, and stable environment.

As an emergency foster home (jourhem), you offer one or more children or young people a temporary home environment. Your role is to create a stable environment where the child/children can feel safe, seen, and cared for for a shorter period. Being an emergency foster home requires flexibility, empathy, and a strong desire to help children in vulnerable situations who are often in crisis. You become an important part of a process where the child's needs are put first.

As an enhanced foster home (förstärkt familjehem), you offer one or more children a safe home environment. The child is usually 10 years old or older. Your role is to create a stable environment where the child can feel seen and cared for. Being an enhanced foster home requires flexibility, empathy, and a strong desire to help children in vulnerable situations. You become an important part of a process where the child's needs are put first. You usually have the child/young person with you for a longer period. As an enhanced foster home, it is assumed that an adult is home full-time.

Children and young people living in an enhanced foster home have greater care needs than what can be provided in traditional/general foster homes. When/if the need for enhanced support is no longer required, the enhanced care can transition to a general foster home.

Activities and support for our emergency and enhanced foster homes

We within the Foster Care Group are here for our emergency and enhanced foster homes through regular contact, supervision, and flexible, present support. Our emergency and enhanced foster homes are trained in "A Home to Grow In". Lectures and other activities are arranged regularly.

Who can become an emergency or enhanced foster home?

• You should have a safe and stable family situation.
• Live in one of the municipalities in Skaraborg.
• You need to have space both in your home and in your heart to take in a child in need of support.
• Time for the assignment.
• You have a willingness to cooperate with social services, professionals, and the biological network.
• Before the assignment begins, social services conduct an investigation that includes home visits, interviews according to the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare's recommendations, and register checks to ensure that your home is a safe environment for the placed child/young person.

Meritorious qualifications include:

• Previous professional experience in people-oriented professions or equivalent education.
• Previous experience as a foster home or contact family.
• Experience with NPD (Neurodevelopmental Disorders) diagnoses.

What do we offer?

• Support in the form of supervision and education.
• As an enhanced foster home, you get a professional team consisting of a child welfare secretary, a foster care secretary, and a family therapist who provide weekly support to you.
• Economic compensation according to SKR (Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions) recommendations. As an enhanced foster home, loss of earnings is included, and in some cases, also for emergency foster homes.
