Description

The oncology clinic in Skövde and Lidköping is part of Business Area 2, Surgery, Urology, and Palliative Care. The operations include oncological day care and medical clinics. On this unit, we primarily treat patients with breast, gastrointestinal, and prostate cancer for both curative and palliative purposes, as well as patients with brain tumors. Decisions have been made to gradually expand with more diagnostic groups in the coming years, and there is a decision to form an oncological center at SkaS. In September 2026, we will move to expanded, newly renovated premises. In connection with the move, lung oncology at SkaS will become part of our operations.

Job Responsibilities

We have a patient-centered approach in our meetings with our patients, and as a nurse, you have the role of contact nurse during the treatment period. You follow your patients over a longer period and value supportive and educational conversations as part of the work.

The reception activities involve participating in medical visits where medical treatments are initiated and followed up. In the oncological day care, various treatments such as cytostatic therapy and immunotherapy are administered. Telephone advice is an important part of the work. You work independently but also in close collaboration with colleagues and doctors. Here, you always have the opportunity to learn something new because oncology is constantly evolving. Basic training in cytostatic handling and antiemetics is part of your introduction. We work daytime Monday to Friday and are off on public holidays, but some weekend duty within 24/7 care is included in the position.

Qualifications

We are looking for a colleague with a genuine interest in oncological care and who enjoys being part of a developing operation. If you have worked as a contact nurse in oncology and have experience in the field, it is an advantage. Specialist education in oncology or palliative care is also an advantage. You are trustworthy as a person and have an easy time creating good relationships with both colleagues and patients. You understand the importance of good treatment towards patients and relatives. You are solution-focused and want to contribute to the ongoing development of the operation. You also have the ability to prioritize and make your own decisions.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will participate in Clinical Base Year, which is our introduction program. Clinical Base Year is mandatory and lasts during the first year of your employment with us. Clinical Base Year includes introduction days, supervision and education days, as well as observation days. The purpose of Clinical Base Year is to create good conditions for newly graduated nurses to strengthen their theoretical knowledge and practice skills, as well as grow into their new profession.
