About the job

For those driven by a role with multiple contact points and with maritime experience, there is now an opportunity to work as a Ship Inspector in the Maritime Supervision Section at the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen). In this role, you will exercise supervision through surveys and inspections, as well as operational controls of ships and ports. Additionally, you will supervise safety, the environment, and working conditions on ships and shipping companies.

The work as a Ship Inspector is highly outward-facing and involves extensive contact with the maritime and shipbuilding industries, as well as adjacent business sectors, both in Sweden and abroad. This means you will travel both domestically and internationally. The role includes on-call duty.

You will

  • survey and inspect Swedish and foreign ships
  • review drawings and technical documentation
  • carry out newbuilding/refitting and registration surveys
  • perform Port State and Flag State controls
  • be on call duty with deployment for incidents and accidents.

You must have

  • a degree as a Marine Engineer with senior sea service experience as a certified ship officer with competence according to STCW III/2; without restrictions on the area of operation, or alternatively a degree as a Civil Engineer in Naval Architecture with several years of experience in ship design and the shipbuilding industry.
  • good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in both Swedish and English
  • a valid B driving license.

It is meritorious if you also have

  • experience from technical inspection work on ships at shipyards/during refitting/newbuilding
  • experience from working at a classification society or in the shipbuilding industry
  • experience from case management/administration within a public authority.

The employment is permanent with a location in Stockholm. Appointment according to agreement. We normally apply a probationary period.
