Region Stockholm offers a one-year independent BT (Basic Training) program, Bastjänstgöring, in collaboration with Region Stockholm's healthcare operations within both the private sector and region-owned care.
About the position
The position is a fixed-term employment as a BT-doctor for 12 months, which cannot be shortened. The employment is with the BT unit within SLSO and is a full-time position comprising 40 hours per week. On-call duties are included to varying degrees depending on the placement. Individual salary setting applies. The BT program begins with a mandatory joint introduction starting in week 43 on October 19, 2026.
The BT program is based on the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare's description of objectives for BT and includes clinical work under supervision in general medicine (4 months), emergency care (4 months), geriatrics (2 months), and psychiatry (2 months). The order of placements and workplace may vary and cannot be chosen.
The work involves independent clinical patient work under supervision, combined with education in the form of seminars and courses. Upon starting, you will be assigned a main supervisor who will follow up and provide support throughout the entire BT program. Each clinical placement includes elements of competence assessment and feedback.
We are looking for
We are looking for you who have a Swedish medical license approved by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare and have not completed Swedish AT (Internship). Your Swedish language skills correspond to level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and you have good medical knowledge. You are an EU citizen, permanently resident in Sweden, or have a residence permit that allows you to apply for a work permit as a BT-doctor in Sweden.
Merit is work experience within healthcare in Sweden as a licensed doctor.

For your application to be considered, the requested information below must be included and attached to the application:
- Medical degree certificate (issued/translated into English or Swedish).
- To apply for the BT program, you must have a Swedish license included in your application by the last day before the advertisement closes.
- Swedish high school diploma.
- CV with clearly stated dates when you started and ended respective employments (year, month, day).
- Employment certificate or employment contract (for all employments as a licensed doctor in Sweden that you have stated in your CV with year, month, day) serves as the basis for assessment.
- Current mobile number and home address/residential address.
- Cover letter in Swedish.
- Recommendation letters from your two most recent workplaces in Sweden as a licensed doctor, one of which from a specialist-competent colleague within your profession.
- Current references as a licensed doctor from your two most recent workplaces in Sweden, a manager and a specialist-competent colleague (at least two references) within your profession.
- Any necessary work/residence permits.

In patient-related work within the Stockholm County Healthcare Services (SLSO):
- A register check is applied before a decision on employment according to SLSO's overarching guidelines for register checks upon employment.
- Employees who will have patient contact must undergo a new employment examination, according to current directives, which takes place through occupational health services before employment.
- In addition to a Swedish professional license, good knowledge of the Swedish language corresponding to level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is required. The same requirements are guiding regarding non-licensed staff with patient contact.
