Are you an experienced and knowledgeable building archaeologist who wants to care for and develop cultural-historical environments in Jönköping County? Then the position of Building Archaeologist at Jönköping County Museum might be for you!

As a Building Archaeologist, you are part of the museum's commissioned work and carry out assignments for both public and private entities throughout the county. You handle building archaeological projects, independently or in collaboration with colleagues. The work includes, among other things, archaeological consultation, inventories, investigations, review comments, documentation, report writing, advisory services, dissemination, and knowledge building.

You will be part of a team, together with other building archaeologists, archaeologists, conservators, and cultural geographers, within the Cultural Environment unit. All with extensive knowledge and broad competence. Every year, we work with hundreds of assignments for municipalities, authorities, companies, and private individuals.

Qualifications

We are looking for you with good knowledge and experience of building archaeological assignments and who has:

  • A university degree with a focus on building archaeology.
  • Very good building archaeological knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Good communication skills to express yourself well, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience working in commissioned operations.
  • A valid driver's license (Category B).

It is meritorious if you are a certified expert regarding cultural values, have project management experience, and have skills in InDesign and Photoshop.

The Employment

The position is a permanent full-time employment (40 hours/week), starting with a 6-month probationary period. Working hours are normally during the day. Travel within the county is common. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.

Jönköping County Museum is an art and cultural history museum that makes the cultural heritage of the county accessible to everyone. In the heart of Jönköping, in a characteristic building by architect Carl Nyrén, visitors encounter exhibitions in halls with light and space. The museum buildings also house archives, storage, a comprehensive image archive, and an atelier for painting conservation.

The significant operations throughout the county are based on three assignment perspectives – management, research, and dissemination. The approx. 45 employees work with everything from object care to exhibitions, archaeology, building conservation, ethnographic documentation, and educational activities with participation in focus.

With expertise and knowledge bases in a number of areas related to cultural heritage, the County Museum contributes in a sustainable and long-term way to societal development.
