The Role of Deputy Artistic Director

As the Deputy Artistic Director, you play a central role at Freja Musical Theatre, working closely with the Artistic Director and reporting to the Artistic Manager for Young Spira and Dance. You plan and coordinate activities, participate in productions through directing, choreography, or vocal coaching, and provide pedagogical and social support to ensemble members. You contribute to development work, participate in lectures, workshops, and external presentations, and are part of the Young Spira department.

The position is 50%, permanent with a probationary period, and includes evening and weekend work. The start date for the position is January 4, 2027.

Your Future Workplace

Culture House Spira presents a varied program of music, theater, musicals, and dance for children, young people, and adults in Jönköping County every year. Our operations include the Jönköping Sinfonietta and a permanent acting ensemble, along with workshops for scenery, masks, costumes, props, and accessories.

Approximately 700 events are held annually in the form of self-produced performances, guest appearances, collaborations with the county's independent cultural practitioners, as well as rentals and conferences. Our mandate is regional, and part of the operations takes place on tours within the county. Approximately 30 percent of the operations are specifically aimed at children and young people through Young Spira. Culture House Spira is part of Jönköping County Region and falls under the units within Regional Development. The operations have an annual turnover of approximately 132 million SEK and employ about 100 people.

Freja Musical Theatre is part of Culture House Spira and works with performing arts that include people with neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPD). Your Profile

To be considered for the position, you have a post-secondary education in performing arts, musical theatre, theatre pedagogy, or a similar focus. Alternatively, you have equivalent working experience with substantial experience working with people with NPD diagnoses. Having both post-secondary education as mentioned above and work experience working with people who have NPD diagnoses is a great advantage for the position. We also look for prior experience in artistic creation – directing, choreography, or singing – and experience in pedagogical and social work. Travel within the county may be required, so having a B driver's license is a bonus, though not a requirement.
