Waste Engineer at Nodava in Northern Dalarna
NODAVA ABDalarnas län, Orsa
Previous experience is desired
In northern Dalarna, commitment to societal development and sustainability merges with a unique quality of life. Clean drinking water and sustainable waste management solutions create stability and quality of life in a region where people want to live, work, and stay. With the mission to promote "a sustainable life – together", Nodava AB is responsible for managing and developing facilities for water supply, sewage treatment, and waste management in the municipalities of Mora, Orsa, and Älvdalen. Nodava is a municipality-owned competence company focused on long-term sustainability, public benefit, and building capacity to meet future environmental challenges.
A reform is currently underway in how waste operations are conducted, and Nodava is adapting to meet requirements and owners' needs based on new regulations to reduce waste generation, increase sorting rates, and minimize waste's impact on the local environment. With the customer in focus, one of Nodava's goals is to contribute to sustainable societal development by driving and disseminating knowledge so that waste is viewed as a resource. We aim to achieve this by working preventively and systematically. We aim to contribute to reduced waste generation and ensure that generated waste is sorted to a higher degree for reuse. The goal in northern Dalarna by 2030 is to reduce total waste volume by 25% and waste sent for incineration by 50%. This is achieved, among other things, by shifting to near-source sorting of packaging, i.e., close to where the waste is generated.
The position is part of the Development and Projects department, which is tasked with providing Nodava's owner municipalities with strategic and long-term guidance in meeting development needs within waste and water/sewage. Within the department, there are three waste engineers with overlapping areas of responsibility who work together to find solutions for how northern Dalarna should tackle upcoming challenges. We have long-term goals and strategies in place. We are now looking for you who can translate strategies into concrete solutions and implementation in collaboration with the operations department. You will be offered great opportunities for professional development, and as a colleague, you will become part of a competent, friendly, and engaged team.
Your responsibilities
- Initiate, drive, and participate in development projects within the scope of the assignment.
- Establish reuse as an integrated part of recycling center operations and build collaborations with new receivers.
- Conduct investigations of a more complex nature in accordance with agreements, legal requirements, regulations, and guidelines.
- Develop and implement educational and informational materials to guide customers, schools, and businesses regarding sorting and waste management.
- Prepare relevant background material for boards and owner municipalities.
- Identify and drive development to create new digital and data-driven solutions within the business area.
- Monitor developments in the waste sector, track trends, technological advancements, research results, and changes in laws and authority requirements.
- Inform and conduct internal training initiatives to raise awareness and increase knowledge in line with strategies and strategic goals for sustainable societal development.
- Participate in and represent Nodava in various networks and organizations within the area of responsibility.
Your profile
You have a university education in waste, environment, urban planning, or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way. We would appreciate it if you have experience with strategic sustainability work in some form and possess relevant knowledge within the waste/recycling sector. Knowledge of waste and environmental law is meritorious.
We are looking for you who are motivated by translating goals and strategies into implementation in collaboration with others. The assignment requires a holistic view combined with a strategic approach, with the ability to weigh together complex information and different types of considerations. Experience in investigations is very important, and experience with environmental scanning is an asset. The assignment requires good ability to communicate clearly, well-formulated, and engaged, both orally and in writing. You ensure that messages reach their audience and that expectations are clear for all involved parties.
You have a structured working method and also experience in leading projects and working in a project-based manner. You thrive in work situations that require you to be self-reliant while collaborating with others in various formations. We aim to develop our working methods through digitalization, so you should also have an interest in the possibilities of digitalization. If you are creative, innovative, and see opportunities that can be put into practice and lead to results, this is a job for you.
As the position involves travel within Mora, Orsa, and Älvdalen, a valid driver's license (Category B) is required.
Your workplace will be at Nodava's premises in Orsa. The work is full-time. The position is a permanent employment with start as soon as possible according to agreement.
Do you want to contribute to sustainable societal development in northern Dalarna together with engaged colleagues? We welcome your application!
