Project Manager for Rural Promotional Development and Strengthened Community – Upplandsbygd
UPPLANDSBYGD LOKALT LEDD UTVECKLINGUppsala län, Uppsala
Previous experience is desired
Do you want to contribute to and develop local work for promoted community and local resilience in Uppland? Do you want to give associations and businesses the prerequisites to drive developmental projects that make the rural areas they live in more attractive and sustainable?
In the full-time position as Project Manager at Upplandsbygd Locally Led Development, you will do all this and become an important hub in the local work. At the same time, you will develop a broad range of skills and competencies!
Upplandsbygd is now looking for a substitute on a full-time basis for 12 months starting in September 2026, as one of our project managers will be on leave.
If you haven't heard of Upplandsbygd Locally Led Development before
Upplandsbygd Locally Led Development is a non-profit organization where voluntary, public, and private forces join forces for rural development in the municipalities of Knivsta, Sigtuna, Uppsala, Vallentuna, and Östhammar. This is done through locally led development using the Leader method, financed by the EU and the relevant municipalities, with sustainable development as the guiding star. The organization's secretariat currently consists of five full-time employees and is located in Storvreta, just north of Uppsala, which is centrally located in the operational area with good communications. The organization's current project manager for intervention areas aimed at rural promotional development and strengthened community will be on leave for a year, and Upplandsbygd Locally Led Development is now looking for a substitute for the secretariat.
What will be my tasks?
As Project Manager for the intervention area Rural Promotional Development and Strengthened Community, you will work closely with associations, businesses, and other local actors whose activities contribute to increased community, trust, and hope for the future among the inhabitants of Upplandsbygd.
The assignment is based on a regenerative perspective on rural development. Regenerative place development is fundamentally about a simple but important question: How do we develop places so that they do not just consume engagement, nature, and resources, but actually replenish them? How do we create local communities that strengthen people's participation, build relationships, and increase the place's long-term ability to thrive?
The project manager role involves strengthening the capacity of actors who want to develop and transform their businesses or local communities in a more socially sustainable direction. You will create good conditions for initiatives that promote inclusion, participation, and meaningful activities for more people. By promoting networks and collaboration between actors, providing support, and development efforts, you contribute to strengthening social sustainability and cohesion in the Upplandsbygd area.
The project manager role involves not only driving and developing the organization's own projects, but also working with information and advice, as well as processing project applications received from various organizations. You support project owners and strengthen them in their work. This may involve facilitating idea generation, providing advice on project management, and assisting with contacts. It also means guiding applicants regarding the requirements and prerequisites for project applications and ensuring that projects align with the organization's strategy. Furthermore, you work with other parts of the operation as needed, as you become an important part of a small work group that collaborates to achieve their goals together.
To thrive and develop in the role, we would like you to
● Be driven by accelerating sustainable development through grassroots work.
● Be structured, receptive, and service-oriented.
● Enjoy collaborating with others and contributing to good relationships.
● Are accustomed to working systemically and leading collaboration processes between different independent actors.
● Have experience in project management and association development, administration, association life, public sector, business development, or similar.
● Enjoy freedom under responsibility.
● Have a university degree in rural development, environmental communication, sustainable development, or equivalent.
● Have a B driving license.
● Work comfortably in both Swedish and English.
