Position: Hospital Chaplain (Full-time)

The position is full-time, distributed between the hospital and the parish.

About the position

We are looking for a priest who wants to carry forward the trust placed in the hospital church, build relationships, and be a present force in care. We want you to continue developing the work we conduct within the hospital church in Hudiksvall.

While you work independently at the hospital church, you are also an important part of the work team in the Hudiksvallsbygden parish.

Your main workplace is at Hudiksvall Hospital, where you, together with the hospital church work team, conduct pastoral counseling, meet with patients, relatives, and staff, and are available for both routine and acute situations.

The hospital church is ecumenical, and the work team consists of a hospital priest, hospital deacon, and hospital pastor, along with an on-call group to cover certain weekend duties.

The hospital church is responsible for coordinating spiritual care. Our primary task is to identify spiritual and existential needs. The hospital church also facilitates contact with spiritual guides for other faith communities.

You are also involved in the parish's activities in various ways, such as participating in worship services, mentoring, providing crisis support, leading bereavement groups, or serving as a resource with your specific competencies and interests within our work team. As a hospital priest, the role also includes a smaller number of church ceremonies.

About Hudiksvall Hospital

Hudiksvall Hospital is an emergency hospital belonging to Region Gävleborg. It houses various wards including ICU (IVA), Internal Medicine (HIA), Surgery, and Medicine. The hospital also has a maternity ward, a pediatric ward with neonatal care, and a psychiatric unit. Additionally, the hospital has outpatient clinics for dialysis, psychiatry, surgery, orthopedics, medicine, and more. The hospital church has a good collaboration with the hospital staff.

Your main responsibilities

• Pastoral care, counseling, and crisis support, individually and in groups
• Facilitating bereavement groups
• Participation in training and supervision of healthcare staff
• Involvement in the hospital's crisis management
• On-call duties on weekends
• Palliative care
• Devotions in the hospital's chapel
• Farewells and funerals in the hospital's farewell room
• Worship services, church ceremonies, and parish activities closely related to the hospital priest role

We are looking for someone who

• is ordained as a priest in the Church of Sweden
• is confident in your role and in the church's faith, tradition, and mission
• finds it easy to build relationships
• is stable, sensitive, and empathetic
• has solid counseling skills/experience in pastoral care
• has a genuine interest in meeting people in various life situations

Training specific to hospital chaplaincy is desirable, but if you lack this, we offer it.
