The position is a permanent employment. A probationary period of 6 months will be applied. Start date according to agreement.
The National Museum is a government agency with approximately 160 employees tasked with promoting art, interest in art, and art history. The museum's collections include painting, sculpture, drawings, and graphics from the 16th century to the turn of the 20th century, while the collections of decorative arts and design, as well as portrait art, extend to the present day.
The collections are displayed in the main building on Blasieholmen, Stockholm, and at approximately 20 other visitor sites, including Gripsholm Castle, Läckö Castle, Nationalmuseum Jamtli in Östersund, and the Gustavsberg Porcelain Museum. The National Museum also conducts exhibition, program, research, and publication activities, as well as lending operations. We strive to be a museum where everyone feels welcome and offer a broad range of activities both on-site and digitally. By providing contemporary perspectives on history and historical perspectives on the present, we facilitate in-depth conversations about art and design for all ages.
Your main responsibilities:
You are part of the Collections Management Unit within the museum's Collections Department. In the role of Coordinator, you administer loans from the National Museum's collections. You register loan cases in the database, prepare materials for loan meetings, draw up agendas, and write minutes. You actively communicate with borrowers, draw up agreements, ensure that items are insured, that all logistics are handled professionally, and follow up on loan cases by invoicing borrowers and archiving documentation.
You coordinate activities and collaborate with other coordinators, curators, conservators, packers, and other professional groups at the museum, as well as extensively with external partners.
Additionally, you work with the coordination of the collection presentation in the museum building on Blasieholmen and at other exhibition venues, particularly in relation to loans from the collections. You may also be responsible for the administrative tasks in exhibition projects, such as traveling exhibitions, where you have overall responsibility for project planning and, in some projects, project management. Thus, you play a key role in several of the museum's operations.
The work requires a high degree of independence, good coordination and collaboration skills, and experience working with databases.
The work is based on the National Museum's mission, strategic goals, vision, values, visual profile, and graphic program.
Qualifications:
- Relevant academic education, preferably in cultural studies.
- Extensive experience in administrative work at a museum, including coordination of loans and exhibitions.
- Experience with database work, preferably in Museum Plus.
- Experience working with contracts, insurance, and logistics.
- At least two years of professional experience in a similar role.
- Practical knowledge in project coordination.
- Fluency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- Very good communication and collaboration skills.
Merits:
- Additional relevant language skills.
- Experience in international work.
- Experience working in the public sector.
- Experience in cultural production.
In the selection process, we will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
