Backend Developer for Web Agency Generation

We are looking for a backend developer who enjoys solving problems, writing clean and thoughtful code, and appreciates working in a tight-knit team with high tempo and plenty of laughter along the way.

Generation is an energetic web agency in Stockholm that has been building websites for over a decade. Today, we are a team of 20 people creating truly sharp WordPress solutions. Each year, we build approximately 80 new websites and manage over 500 websites for some of Sweden's most well-known companies, organizations, and brands.

What you will do

As a backend developer, you will become an important part of our development team. You will work both independently and collaboratively to create fast, secure, and long-term solutions in WordPress.

• Develop and maintain custom WordPress plugins and themes
• Write PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Work with Git and GitHub or GitLab for version control and code reviews
• Work with Composer, CI, and modern development workflows
• Handle basic server administration, such as SSH, bash, and DNS
• Work with API integrations and custom functionality
• Explore and build AI integrations that streamline workflows and features
• Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and stand-ups
• Support other developers through knowledge sharing, problem-solving, and technical discussions
• Collaborate closely with project managers, designers, developers, and clients to find the right solutions

Examples of projects you may encounter:

• E-commerce solutions with WooCommerce
• Membership platforms with custom login and API integrations
• Large marketing sites with high traffic and high performance requirements
• Custom-built WordPress solutions where administration, structure, and stability are central
• Websites with advanced content structures, multilingual capabilities, and customized flows
• Integrations with CRM, business systems, payment solutions, form flows, and other external services
• Internal plugins and solutions used by multiple clients over time

We believe that you…

• Have several years of experience in backend development and are confident in taking technical responsibility
• Are very comfortable with PHP and WordPress development
• Have built your own plugins, themes, or similar client-customized solutions
• Have a good understanding of APIs, integrations, and data models
• Are familiar with Git, code reviews, and structured development workflows
• Understand the importance of security, performance, and code that is maintainable over time
• Are comfortable in the terminal and have experience with SSH/bash
• Can reason about technical decisions and explain solutions clearly
• Communicate fluently in Swedish, both verbally and in writing (you need to be fluent in Swedish for this role).

Extra plus if you also

• Have experience with Laravel, Vue.js, or Node.js
• Have worked closely with clients and enjoy it
• Have knowledge of Docker or basic server administration
• Are interested in testing (PHPUnit, integration tests)
• Are curious about generative AI and enjoy testing new tools and methods that can streamline both your own work and client projects

• Working hours: Full-time
• Start: Immediately or as agreed
