At the Swedish Migration Agency, we work with one of today's major societal challenges – migration. We are approximately 6,000 employees in total, and we have an unusually important job!
Unit 1 for International Operations is looking for a Migration Liaison Officer to be based at the Swedish Embassy in Amman, Jordan. As a Migration Liaison Officer, you are part of the Swedish Migration Agency's international units, and the role involves extensive collaboration with the back-office of the international units in Sweden and other foreign missions.
The assignment includes, in addition to leading and being responsible for the operations of the embassy's migration section, having an overarching responsibility for the development of the Swedish Migration Agency's mandate and the migration mandate at other foreign missions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), with the aim of increasing efficiency and quality. You also have an overarching responsibility to work with the Swedish Migration Agency's mandates as outlined in letters of appropriation, business plans, resource consolidation assignments, strategic decisions, and similar documents. In your daily line management, you are supported by seconded staff. Travel within the scope of the work is expected.
What does a Migration Liaison Officer do?
In your work as a Migration Liaison Officer, you lead and coordinate migration operations at the foreign mission's migration section locally and regionally. The responsibility will include a significant responsibility to conduct development work within the MENA region.
The work may involve, among other things:
- Implementing established mandates and measures according to the Swedish Migration Agency's decisions
- Leading and coordinating migration operations locally and regionally
- Being part of the embassy's management group
- Holding development and salary discussions with locally employed staff
- Ensuring continuous competence development regarding migration issues
- Monitoring operations at foreign missions in the region
- Providing background material for decisions regarding resource allocation and distribution within migration operations in the region
- Identifying and driving development projects in the region to increase quality and efficiency within migration operations
- Implementing established mandates and measures according to the Swedish Migration Agency's decisions on regionalization
- Collaborating and cooperating with the Swedish Migration Agency's international units
- Participating in and reporting from Schengen meetings
- Reporting on operations
- Representing the Swedish Migration Agency in national and international cooperation groups and meetings regarding migration within your area of responsibility
- Making decisions in migration cases as delegated, when necessary
Who are you?
Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, where good judgment, good collaboration skills, and skill in communicating – both orally and in writing – are central components. Given that the assignment involves leading change and development work, you need to be strongly results-oriented, proactive, resilient, and energetic with good ability to lead and collaborate with others.
It is important that you have good knowledge of people, are decisive and unpretentious, and have a genuine service orientation. You are social and relationship-building, have high adaptability, and can quickly absorb and apply information. You have the ability to handle a sometimes high workload, to prioritize, and to take independent responsibility for your work. You need to be able to express yourself well in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.
The successful candidate will have:
- Documented current experience of working in a leadership role with responsibility for personnel
- Experience in conducting development and change work
- Several years of experience working with migration cases, particularly residence permit cases, and being well-versed in case types occurring at foreign missions and migration issues in general
- Current experience from working at a foreign mission in a supervisory role
- Very good documented knowledge of Swedish and English – both written and spoken
- Swedish citizenship
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience of migration operations and/or visa operations in the current region
- Experience of having worked as a Migration Liaison Officer
- Knowledge of the Swedish Migration Agency's ongoing development work within international operations
- You are or have been a manager
- Experience of project management or working in projects.
A security check with register control according to the Security Protection Act (1996:627) will precede the decision on employment, hence the requirement for Swedish citizenship for this position. Control for the presence of prohibited hits in the Swedish Migration Agency's operational system is carried out in connection with the recruitment process. You will not be considered for employment if you have performed prohibited hits in the systems. Appointment is made after anchoring with the relevant ambassador.
Information
Appointment is subject to the necessary decisions on posting being made.
Commencement in December 2026, with availability prior to that for preparatory measures such as training, health examination, passport application, security training, etc.
The position is fixed-term until August 31, 2029.
Extension may be possible.
The employment is covered by the URA agreement and the Swedish Migration Agency's guidelines for URA. After completing the international assignment, you will return to your primary employment within the Swedish Migration Agency.
