About Sunderby Folk High School
Sunderby Folk High School offers education and courses ranging from upper secondary subjects to creative training, with knowledge and the individual at the core. Our main organizations are the LO District in Northern Sweden, ABF Norr, and Unga Örnar Norrbotten.
Through the foundation, we run various projects to strengthen democracy and provide people on the margins of society with tools and support to influence their future. Our project team consists of two permanent project managers, and the number of other project staff varies depending on the projects we have ongoing.
About the project "Hela vägen ut" (All the Way Out):
The project runs for 34 months. The aim is to reduce the high risk of reoffending among persons who are serving or have recently served sentences, as well as to facilitate their establishment in work, studies, and society. The challenge is particularly great in Norrbotten, where the demand for labor is increasing while many in the target group are far from the labor market.
Only a small proportion move on to work or studies after release, meaning many lack stable employment during a critical phase. This increases the risk of reoffending and continued marginalization.
The problems are complex and are linked to factors such as low education levels, weak work experience, mental health issues, substance abuse, neuropsychiatric disabilities, debt, weak social networks, and employers' hesitation to hire people with criminal backgrounds. Additionally, there is often a gap in support services after the completion of a sentence.
The consequences are significant for both the individual and society, leading to increased marginalization and higher societal costs, while labor resources are lost.
The project therefore aims to strengthen the target group's opportunities for employment, inclusion, and long-term establishment in work or studies.
The project is a collaboration between the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, Boden Municipality, Kooperativ Valborg, DC Farmers, and Sunderby Folk High School.
Job Description:
As a project staff member in "Hela Vägen Ut," you will work with participants both individually and in groups. You will contribute to further developing and adapting a previously used model for the project's target group. Participants follow a relatively structured plan, where they are first introduced to the program and decide on participation.
The work involves creating a safe relationship and a common language for discussing emotions, using the "three-circle model." This is followed by group-based interventions at the individual's own pace, aimed at strengthening the participant's relationship with society and working life. The goal is for participants to move on to work, studies, or practice/work training.
You will partially work with participants inside the prison in Luleå, where you, together with a colleague, offer activities and inform about the folk high school's opportunities.
The role involves working with people who are often far from the labor market and may have complex issues, such as mental health problems, substance abuse, and weak establishment in society.
Responsibilities:
As a project staff member in the "Hela vägen ut" project, you are expected to:
- Work with individuals within or connected to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. Work may involve both probation and prison settings.
- Collaborate with project managers and other project partners.
- Ensure that the project's goals are met.
- Contribute to documentation and evaluation of methods and results.
As part of our project team, you are expected to:
- Be well-versed in the project's goals and collaborate with others within the project to achieve them.
- Participate in other work occurring at the folk high school.
We are looking for someone who:
- Believes in people's ability to change and wants to contribute to creating conditions for an independent and sustainable life after crime, addiction, or other life challenges.
- Has experience working with people in social vulnerability.
- Is passionate about equal rights, equality, and democracy for all people.
- Has personal maturity, security, and the ability to build professional relationships.
- Feels comfortable meeting people in change and recovery processes and has the ability to meet each individual with respect, clarity, and a non-judgmental approach.
- Has good collaboration skills.
- Is proactive, self-initiating, and creative.
- Wants to be involved in developing new methods and ways of working.
Merits if you have:
- Experience with the target group.
- Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing (MI) or other methodologies within change work.
- Knowledge and understanding of the social structures that affect the target group's opportunities.
- Experience of collaboration between organizations with different prerequisites.
- Knowledge of languages other than Swedish and English.
We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
