Are you a specialist nurse or a general nurse with several years of work experience, looking to work in a clinic characterized by teamwork, good communication, and high competence? Do you thrive working both independently and in a team, always with the patient in focus? Then you might be the one we are looking for! We are now welcoming two nurses to our clinic at the neurosurgery department to work with spinal cord stimulation.
About the Department
The neurosurgery area in Lund is part of the Business Area (VO) Neurosurgery and Pain Rehabilitation at Skåne University Hospital (Sus). We are one of seven neurosurgical units in Sweden, providing highly specialized care to the Southern Healthcare Region. We provide care for patients with injuries and diseases of the central nervous system. Within the business area, there is intensive, intermediate pre- and postoperative care, as well as operating theater care and outpatient activities.
The neurosurgery department, together with pain rehabilitation, is responsible for Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) within the Southern Region. Currently, the nurse-led clinic for spinal cord stimulation is part of the pain rehabilitation activities. It is now being transferred to the neurosurgery department. With SCS treatment, the unit can offer pain reduction to patients with peripheral neuropathic pain. Reduced pain means less suffering and increased quality of life for patients. The treatment is often lifelong, with continuous follow-up and annual check-ups.
This involves continuous and recurring contact with patients in the form of operative procedures such as system implantation, battery changes, electrode changes, programming, counseling, follow-up with technical checks, reprogramming, and support for patients and other healthcare providers regarding equipment and treatment management.
Responsibilities
2 positions available.
We are now welcoming two nurses to our spinal cord stimulation team! You will be one of two nurses in our spinal cord stimulation activity at Skåne University Hospital (Sus). You will collaborate closely with a team consisting of pain physicians, a neurosurgeon, and a secretary. Additionally, the team will collaborate with a physiotherapist and a psychologist from pain rehabilitation who are attached to the team.
The role includes participating in SCS conferences with referral handling and assessment/selection. You prepare the patient for surgery at the clinic with information and technical education, participate in the insertion of equipment during surgery, and make programming settings for individually adapted treatment therapy. This is done in consultation with the responsible physician. Work at the clinic involves handling technical systems and standard outpatient work in collaboration with the responsible physician. Furthermore, the work includes telephone counseling, patient follow-ups, annual check-ups, and contact with company representatives.
The approach to patients is holistic and based on a biopsychosocial perspective. It also involves working with health counseling regarding lifestyle habits concerning diet, tobacco, and alcohol. The assignment in the SCS team is planned for 75 percent per nurse; the remaining working time is spent in the neurosurgery department. The position is primarily daytime on weekdays, but also includes two weekend shifts per month within our inpatient care activities. You will receive a structured introduction with shadowing and support from experienced colleagues.
Your tasks as a nurse within the neurosurgery department (25 percent) will be shaped according to the unit's needs and your competence.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse with permission to work in Swedish healthcare. You are a general nurse or have specialized education in anesthesia or intensive care, or another suitable direction. Additionally, you have several years of work experience in the nursing profession. Furthermore, Swedish language skills equivalent to at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe scale are required.
We consider the following to be meritorious:

- Specialized knowledge with further education in pain.
- Experience working with ACT and/or motivational approaches such as MI (Motivational Interviewing).

We are looking for you who have an interest in working with patients with long-term pain and technical equipment, enjoy working in a team, and appreciate a varied pace. Furthermore, you enjoy developing and driving processes forward, working in complex teams, and taking responsibility. We also value that you are structured and have the ability to prioritize in independent work. You also have a caring and person-centered approach. For us, it is a matter of course that you have the ability to treat patients, relatives, employees, and students with care and respect. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
