About the Unit
The mission of the Animal Division is to create good conditions for good and sustainable animal husbandry and a safe and competitive food production. We are also tasked with preventing and combating animal diseases that could negatively affect food production, nature values, or human health.
A large part of our operations is classified as socially important, which means, among other things, that we are currently working intensively to strengthen our capabilities in these areas to increase robustness.

Responsibilities
We are looking for a Unit Manager who wants to contribute to sustainable development in the handling and use of animals, ensuring both good animal welfare and increased competitiveness in agriculture. As a Unit Manager, your task is to lead your unit, consisting of approximately 17 employees, both operationally and strategically. In your role, you are responsible for personnel, work environment, results, and budget. The unit works on a team basis and shares responsibility for solving our tasks. We continuously develop and improve our working methods for a good work environment and to work efficiently and legally.
The Animal Welfare Unit works broadly with animal welfare issues. This involves handling legislation at the national and EU levels related to the keeping and use of animals. This includes, among other things, issues regarding animal transport, animal competitions, horse care, slaughter of animals, as well as breeding and artificial insemination. The unit is also responsible for issues related to preparedness and crisis that concern animal husbandry. This means that you and your employees have varying tasks where you, as a manager, are an important support in prioritizations from a holistic perspective. The unit works in close cooperation with the Swedish Board of Agriculture's Animal Welfare Chief, who supports in strategic and overarching issues. In your role, you represent your unit internally and the Swedish Board of Agriculture externally; you have many contacts with industry representatives, other authorities, and animal welfare organizations.
You are part of the Animal Division's management group together with the Division Chief, who leads the group consisting of; the Chief of Infectious Disease Control, the Animal Welfare Chief, the CVO (Chief Veterinarian), the Deputy Division Chief, and the Unit Managers of the other eight units in the division. In close cooperation, you drive the division's development forward.
Qualifications
To be considered for the position of Unit Manager, a relevant university degree is required. You must have worked as a manager with personnel responsibility in the near past and have documented experience in leading operations and employees. The assignment assumes that you have good leadership skills and experience in leading, coordinating, and distributing work, as well as taking responsibility for the operation's results and assignments. Management experience and leadership experience are seen as continuous and are a fundamental prerequisite for success in the role. You must be able to express yourself very well both orally and in writing in Swedish.
It is an advantage if you have experience of public authority operations and are accustomed to working within the framework of laws and regulations. Experience from the agricultural sector is also an advantage, as is knowledge of animal husbandry and animal welfare issues. This competence gives you good conditions to understand the context of the operations and contribute to legally secure and high-quality processing.
In the role of Unit Manager, you have a clear responsibility to create results and drive the operations forward. You do this through effective and present leadership, where you engage and develop your employees and build trusting relationships with both the team and partners. We are looking for you who exercise a secure and stable leadership style and who can confidently make decisions, in some cases under challenging situations.
