1 position(s).
At the Swedish Courts Administration (Domstolsverket), you will have the opportunity to create real societal benefit by working at the heart of democracy and contributing to an open, legally secure, and accessible court system.
On April 1, 2027, the Swedish Courts Administration will change its leadership structure and become the Court Board (Domstolsstyrelsen). This change is part of a broader reform to strengthen the protection of democracy and the independence of the courts. Today, the Swedish Courts Administration is led by a Director-General appointed by the government. With the new leadership structure, the agency will instead be led by a board where seven of the nine members are nominated by the courts themselves. The Board will have the ultimate responsibility for central court administration, while a Director is responsible for operational work. The reform means that the agency needs to develop new working methods for preparation, governance, and coordination. As part of the preparations, a leadership office (ledningskansliet) will be established directly under the Director. We are now looking for a Head of the Leadership Office – a strategic and central role where you will work closely with the Director, the Board, and the management group while simultaneously building a new function from scratch.
About the Job
As the Head of the Leadership Office, you will lead the work of developing and coordinating the agency's leadership support and the office's administrative tasks. The Leadership Office coordinates meeting forums and agendas, ensures the quality of materials for the Board, and supports the Director, the Board, and the management group in matters concerning strategic governance, preparation, and coordination.
The position is newly established, which means you will have the opportunity and responsibility to build a new function from the ground up. It is a role where you will combine leadership, strategy, and operational responsibility in a position of great value to the Board and the Director's work.
Your Assignment
You will work closely with the Director and contribute to creating a clear whole in preparation, decision-making processes, and strategic coordination at the agency-wide level.
As the Head of the Leadership Office, you will lead the work of building a new function directly under the Director. The office is to coordinate and ensure the quality of the preparation of cases for the Board, support the Director in the preparation, implementation, and follow-up of the Board's work, and contribute to the joint preparation of issues of strategic significance in collaboration with relevant departments.
You are responsible for the office's operations and personnel and lead the work of developing the office's working methods, staffing, and organizational interfaces. The assignment also includes supporting the work with rules of procedure, delegation orders, and other governing documents resulting from the new leadership structure.
The Leadership Office is to strengthen the whole and the preparation capacity, but not replace the line organization's responsibility. Business planning, budget and financial management, HR processes, communication processes, as well as subject and process responsibility, remain with the responsible departments and functions.
Initially, the main focus will be on building up the Leadership Office ahead of the Board's assumption of office on April 1, 2027.
Who are you?
You are a secure, trustworthy, and driven leader who thrives in complex contexts and has the ability to make people, processes, and structure fit together. You have experience leading others in contexts where different interests may arise, and where you have the ability to drive assignments forward from a holistic perspective with high quality assurance. To handle this role, you are skilled at building relationships and have an adaptive communicative ability to meet different people and situations. You thrive in a role where you get to combine strategic thinking with operational execution and have a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
To succeed in the role, we see that you have:
- An academic degree in, for example, political science, economics, law, or equivalent
- Several years of experience in leadership with personnel responsibility
- Experience working close to management or a board
- Experience in leadership and governance processes as well as preparatory work
- Good habit of producing and quality-assuring decision-making materials
- Experience in coordinating complex processes
It is meritorious if you have experience from the public sector with coordination and administration.
To be considered for employment, you must meet high demands regarding judgment, security awareness, and suitability. This means that you stand up for democratic values and the public sector values that govern the operations of the Swedish Courts. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
