In our administration, over 1,000 employees work across five different operations: Property, Streets and Parks, Digital Transformation & IT, Meal Service, and Cleaning and Operations Service. We plan, build, and maintain properties, roads, and outdoor environments. We provide transport services and handle internal assignments to ensure the municipality's operations run smoothly. For example, we ensure that the IT environment functions and is secure, that our premises are kept clean, and that the municipality's schools and residential facilities can serve healthy meals. What unites us is the desire to make everyday life easier for Umeå's approximately 130,000 residents.

Meal Service in Umeå Municipality covers the preparation and serving of lunches in preschools and primary schools, upper secondary schools, restaurants, as well as to several units within elderly care. Our task is to provide good service and healthy, nutritious meals for our diners and, together with staff in schools and care, to create an understanding of the importance of food for good health and well-being. Through public meals, Meal Service contributes to good public health and sustainable development.

Preschool Eriksdal is located in the heart of Hörnefors, approximately 28 km south of Umeå. Here, everything is close at hand – nature, the library, and the playground. The preschool consists of four departments working with age-appropriate children's groups.

Your responsibilities

As a cook, you are responsible for leading and planning kitchen work so that it functions satisfactorily, all in accordance with the Meal Service business plan and policy documents. If necessary, you will also cover shifts in other kitchens.

As a cook with us, you are responsible for:

Production

• Ordering food and consumables in accordance with current agreements
• Preparing breakfast, lunch, and snacks
• Preparations and planning
• Menus and meal plans
• Inventory management

Personnel

• Continuously receive information
• Participate in APT (Annual Performance and Development Review)
• Participate in training and information days

Cleaning

• Perform premises maintenance
• Laundry
• Dishwashing

Quality Assurance

• Follow food legislation requirements and perform self-control
• Monitor and report deficiencies
• Use resources with high cost awareness and actively work to balance the unit's budget
• Offer good service and a welcoming attitude to those we serve

About you

To succeed and thrive in the role of cook with us, you are responsible, structured, and have a genuine passion for food. You have good collaboration skills and contribute to a positive work environment, while also being able to independently plan and carry out your work. Furthermore, you are flexible and solution-oriented, with the ability to handle a sometimes high work pace without compromising on quality, hygiene, and safety. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements

• Cook training or other large kitchen training considered equivalent
• Some years of experience working in a large kitchen
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing, to ensure safe and clear communication with students and colleagues
• Valid extract from the criminal record, due to the Act on Suitability Control
