Company Description

Business Unit (BU) Vattenfall Power Solutions is a business unit of approximately 700 people within Business Area (BA) Vattenfall Generation. We train personnel in the Swedish nuclear power sector, deliver nuclear fuel to Vattenfall's nuclear power plants, develop and execute projects and assignments, and provide internal technical specialist services for all of Vattenfall's operations, corporate staff, and stakeholders. This involves activities such as developing and providing training, project management and support, analysis leadership and investigations, product development, and nuclear safety and containment safety assignments. The focus within the Vattenfall Power Solutions business unit is to develop our capabilities in project management and selected technical key disciplines. We actively work on continuous improvement initiatives and the development of our models, where our work and expertise create significant value for Vattenfall and its investments.

About the Role

Do you have an eye for numbers, a curiosity for smart solutions, and a heart that beats for sustainable energy? Then you might be exactly who we are looking for – regardless of whether you are at the start of your career or have a few years of experience under your belt.

Vattenfall Power Solutions is now looking for 2 Calculation Engineers within nuclear power, one more experienced and one junior. As a Calculation Engineer with us, you play a crucial role in keeping our nuclear power plants running. Your work involves ensuring that our reactors receive safe and efficient nuclear fuel.

Here, you will have the opportunity to learn even more about reactor physics and develop into a specialist. We offer a clear development plan, created together with experienced experts, to help you grow in your career.

We believe in freedom with responsibility. This means you can plan your own work, as long as you meet set deadlines, collaborate with the team, and are clear about what you are doing. Become part of our team and help create a secure and sustainable energy future!

About Our Unit: Reactor Physics

We work with advanced reactor physics for both pressurized water reactors (PWR) and boiling water reactors (BWR). Our assignment is exciting and important; we:

  • Develop core and fuel designs used in Vattenfall's reactors at Ringhals and Forsmark. This means we create core designs prior to annual reloads, in collaboration with safety analysis experts. We also review new fuel designs to ensure they are both safe and efficient.
  • Collaborate with Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (SKB) and perform calculations for the safe transport of spent nuclear fuel.
  • Perform radiation calculations for Ringhals and Forsmark, which is vital for protecting both personnel and the surrounding environment.
  • Perform calculations for various types of nuclear fuel, both new and existing, to ensure we always use the safest and most efficient fuel.

With our expertise and meticulous analyses, we help make Sweden's nuclear power plants both safer and more efficient. We work closely with our partners to develop innovative solutions and meet future challenges within nuclear power.

As a Calculation Engineer, you will work with

  • Optimization and analysis of nuclear fuel and core design for Vattenfall's reactors.
  • Validation of calculation codes and models used to create safe and efficient core designs.
  • Development of methods and analyses within reactor physics and criticality calculations.
  • Advanced analyses to provide technical support in questions regarding reactor physics, both internally and to our partners.

You will collaborate closely with our colleagues in Forsmark and Ringhals, as well as with suppliers of nuclear fuel and calculation programs.

We know that our employees are the key to our success, and your development is important to us. Therefore, we will always encourage you to use your knowledge and give you opportunities to develop through new challenges, training, and knowledge transfer.

Requirements

Whether you are new to the working life or have previously worked with calculation and optimization issues, we are looking for you who have a great interest in sustainable electricity production and want to continue developing together with us.

  • You are a civil engineer or have a higher academic degree in natural sciences or engineering; specialization in Technical Physics, Energy Technology, or Physics is an advantage.
  • You have good knowledge of Swedish and English.
  • Regardless of whether you are more experienced in your professional role or junior, knowledge of Machine Learning/AI in combination with nuclear and/or reactor physics is advantageous.
  • A Category B driver's license is an advantage.

You thrive in collaboration and value teamwork where you create engagement and involvement. You are curious, enjoy learning new things, and are happy to share your knowledge.

Your stability and ability to prioritize make you a reliable and solution-focused colleague. You are keen to take initiative and turn ideas into action. With your proactive attitude, you contribute to the success of both the team and the company.

Additional Information

In addition to having the opportunity to shape the smart energy society of the future, we offer you a developing and varied job with many points of contact. For us at Vattenfall, it is important that work and private life have a good balance, which is why we offer flexibility in work as well as the possibility to work from home when needed. We also have many other employee benefits, such as reduced working hours, favorable occupational pension agreements, parental leave supplements, and more. Please read more about our benefits here.

Location: Solna. If you are a very experienced candidate, the place of employment can be discussed. Travel is included as a natural part of the work, but we actively work with technical aids to reduce these.
