Department of Clinical Sciences

The Small Animal Department is seeking an Assistant Manager for the clinical operations at UDS. Are you a veterinarian or veterinary nurse with experience leading and developing clinical operations? We welcome your application!

About the Job

We are looking for someone who wishes to work closely with the Department Manager at the Small Animal Department. As Assistant Department Manager, you will share the responsibilities of the Department Manager, such as 24/7 operational responsibility, business planning, personnel responsibility for unit managers, budgeting, and budget monitoring. The operations and leadership are characterized by adapting the workflow to the clinic's capacity to balance the working environment for employees. We value an operation where everyone feels they can contribute based on their conditions and receive development support tailored to the operation's needs. The work is carried out in collaboration with unit managers and in close cooperation with the academic staff within the department.

We expect you to participate in clinical work and to work irregular hours, sharing responsibility for operations, staffing planning, and clinical activities with the rest of the management group.

Together with other managers and employees within the small animal clinic, you will contribute to creating a good working environment and a supportive study-social and pedagogical environment for employees and students, where continuous development and improvement are a given. Since the hospital operations are conducted in a university environment, which includes research and basic education for veterinary and veterinary nursing students, it is important that you can view the operations from multiple perspectives. Specialist training, at both Swedish and European levels, is also conducted at UDS. Animal healthcare must be conducted in an economically sustainable manner, as this is a prerequisite for clinical teaching and research.

At UDS, you will encounter a dynamic environment with clinical challenges at the forefront of veterinary medicine. Currently, development work is underway to integrate the animal hospital with the department's basic education and research missions. We are reviewing the hospital's organization and workflows to accommodate more students, maintain a balanced economy, and ensure high-quality care for our patients. You will work to create the animal healthcare of the future and educate future veterinarians and veterinary nurses.

Your Background

We are looking for you who are a licensed veterinarian or veterinary nurse with experience from animal healthcare. You have documented leadership experience and previous experience leading and developing clinical operations.

As UDS is a university animal hospital, and clinical animal healthcare is a prerequisite for the clinical education of veterinary and veterinary nursing students, specialist training, and research, experience in education and research is meritorious. Experience in change management is also meritorious.

To succeed and thrive in the role of Assistant Department Manager, we are looking for you who have a trust-based leadership style with the ability to create security, engagement, and trust among employees. As a person, you are confident, stable, and self-aware.

You are a solution-oriented leader who sees development opportunities instead of obstacles and has the ability to remain motivated and effective in changing circumstances. You want to understand others' needs and perspectives and share your knowledge because you see that it creates the best conditions for the operation. Your ability and willingness to develop and maintain collaboration with relevant parties is a significant factor. It is also important that you can view the operation from a commercial perspective and are customer-oriented.

We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
