We are a force that connects, holds together and develops the county. Within Region Västernorrland, we are all part of something bigger.
About the DepartmentThe Surgical Emergency Care Unit (KAVA) is the county hospital's emergency care unit for patients within the surgical clinic. KAVA has 18 inpatient beds and receives the majority of patients admitted via the emergency department within general surgery. Common diagnoses among our patients include trauma, appendicitis, cholecystitis, ileus, and bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract. We have the unique opportunity to perform gastroscopies on the ward.
We have initiated a collaboration with Professor Anna Forsberg. Together, we are developing structures that strengthen the quality of care and contribute to secure, continuous care relationships. The work includes daily, systematic assessment and analysis of the patient's health and situation according to the "head to toe" principle – where every patient is examined by a nurse with "warm hands" during each work shift. Through this collaboration, we also aim to highlight and strengthen the nurse's leadership role, ensuring that nursing care is both organized and delivered with the highest possible professionalism and care.
KAVA is also participating in a pilot project for mobile Cosmic devices, also known as Nova. As a pilot unit, we work with a mobile approach where a tablet is used to always have access to the patient's journal in daily work on the ward. Through the tablet, we can read and register journal information as well as manage activities related to the patient's care.
