About the company

At Hydro's Research & Development unit "R&D Finspång Labs", we are developing tomorrow's aluminum solutions. Our labs are equipped with advanced machinery for component testing, material analysis, casting, extrusion, forming, joining, and surface treatment. We are now looking for a lab technician who wants to work in a varied and hands-on environment.

About the role

As a lab technician, you will work with material investigations of extruded aluminum components. The role is broad and practical, with a strong focus on characterizing current and future aluminum materials and problem-solving.

The work involves not only conducting tests but also analyzing deviations, investigating material structures, and helping project managers and customers understand the causes behind various problems or test results.

You will be responsible for planning and conducting technical analyses, material investigations, and measurements related to various research and development projects. The role also includes evaluating and reporting results to project managers and internal customers, as well as ensuring that documentation, traceability, and archiving of test results, data, and samples are carried out according to established procedures.

Furthermore, you will perform and schedule maintenance of the laboratory's equipment, ensuring that instruments and test equipment are calibrated and verified.

You will work closely with project managers and internal customers, often handling multiple parallel assignments simultaneously. Therefore, the role requires both structure, patience, and strong communication skills.

Examples of tasks:

• Work with metallography, sample preparation, and microscopy
• Analyze material structures, defects, and deviations
• Document and report results to project managers and customers
• Maintain, calibrate, and verify test equipment
• Ensure traceability and archiving of test results, data, and samples
• Collaborate with factories and project teams within Hydro globally

We are looking for someone who

Thrives in a practical and varied laboratory environment where you can combine technology, analysis, and problem-solving. You are detail-oriented and methodical, yet flexible and communicative, as you will have many contact points and work with multiple assignments in parallel.

You have patience and are driven by understanding the root cause of a problem – for example, by analyzing material structures under a microscope or troubleshooting deviating test results.

We believe you have:

• A technical education in areas such as materials technology, chemistry, physics, or a similar field
• Experience from laboratory, testing, or quality environments
• Basic understanding of material testing and documentation
• Experience with microscopy, metallography, or sample preparation is an advantage
• Experience with quality work, traceability, or accredited operations is an advantage
• Good proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
