Biomedical Scientist – Practical Training in Lycksele

Laboratory Medicine is a county organization with operations in Lycksele, Skellefteå, and Umeå. Laboratory Medicine Västerbotten comprises approximately 550 employees within clinical genetics, clinical immunology and transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, and clinical pathology. The organization also includes a biobank, healthcare hygiene, and a tissue institute. The operations are accredited.

At the laboratory in Lycksele, clinical chemical analyses are performed within the areas of general chemistry, hematology, and coagulation. Most analyses are performed on automated multi-analyzers. The work also includes rapid tests within clinical microbiology and acute blood group serology. Practical training in Umeå together with a main supervisor is included in the program.

Our team in Lycksele consists of 10 biomedical scientists and medical biologists.

Job Responsibilities

During your practical training as a biomedical scientist at Region Västerbotten, you will work under supervision to develop your clinical skills and professional knowledge according to the requirements of the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen). The goal is to achieve Swedish licensure as a biomedical scientist.

Your duties include standard tasks for a biomedical scientist. Together with your on-site supervisor, you will work with maintenance, analysis, and validation of patient samples on large analytical instruments, as well as with manual methods and sample sorting.

Within Laboratory Medicine, collaboration occurs with other main supervisors, and you will have the opportunity for specialization within clinical transfusion medicine and clinical chemistry during your practical training period.

Qualifications

• You must have a decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare stating that practical training is a step on your path to licensure as a biomedical scientist.
• You must have passed the knowledge test.
• Sufficient knowledge of the Swedish language for practical training is desirable. C1 level according to GEOS is an advantage.
• A passed course in legislation knowledge is desirable but not a requirement.
