The Communications Department at Uppsala University works with university-wide internal and external communication and is responsible for the university's press office. The department also supports university management in communication matters, handles brand issues, administers academic ceremonies, coordinates visitor activities and student recruitment, and is responsible for university-wide communication channels, such as the central website, newsletters, and social media.

Job Description

We are looking for a qualified press secretary who, together with a colleague in the press service, helps Swedish and international journalists find the right information and expertise at the university. You will also support researchers in communicating research and research results to the public via the media, for example through press releases. As needed, you will also provide advice and support to researchers or other representatives of the university before interviews and media contacts. You work closely with colleagues who work with research communication in the university's own channels and sometimes write articles and texts for social media.

Qualifications

You should have a relevant degree with a focus on journalism or equivalent competence assessed by the employer as equivalent. You must have worked for at least three years as a press secretary or journalist and be a good stylist. You are good at understanding and simplifying complex arguments and have documented a good ability to write journalistic texts. Many of our researchers have English as their working language, so you need to master both Swedish and English flawlessly in speech and writing. To handle work peaks and high quality requirements, you must be flexible and stress-resistant, have an unpretentious approach, and find it easy to collaborate with others. Uppsala University is a government agency, and as a press secretary, you are expected to have good knowledge of the public sector's values.

Desirable/Additional Merits

• Professional experience in press communication within higher education or other public operations
• Professional experience in photography and/or film
• Knowledge of image editing programs such as Photoshop or equivalent
• Professional experience working with social media
• Documented experience in science journalism

About the Position

The position is fixed-term for 12 months. The position is full-time. Start date: 2026-08-15 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
