Department of Psychiatry
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
The Addiction Medicine Clinic is a unit within Region Uppsala that provides specialized addiction care for adults. We are an outpatient clinic consisting of a team of specialist nurses, nurses, doctors, psychologists, and social workers who together meet people with an addiction disease and concurrent psychiatric/somatic comorbidity.
The clinic is characterized by good collegial cohesion and an exciting, meaningful mission. We offer a workplace where you as an employee are given the opportunity to grow and make a difference.
The Addiction Medicine Clinic is partially located in the House of Psychiatry at Akademiska sjukhuset. In addition to the clinic at the hospital, we also have mobile operations and an integrated addiction clinic in Tierp.
Your Role
As a social worker, you are the psychosocial expert and should function as the hub in the network between internal and external actors. The work involves varied tasks where you have the opportunity to work both independently and in close collaboration with the rest of the team.
Your role will be to support and guide in difficult life situations with a focus on creating positive development and increased participation in society. The role also includes mapping and conducting psychosocial investigations and assessments regarding the need for support and interventions, as well as motivating and supporting the patient in this contact. You, like other employees in the team, will be a designated care contact for a number of patients and thus have individual treatment contacts.
You will be part of an interdisciplinary team where the focus is on both the patient's psychosocial and medical needs. As a social worker, you contribute knowledge and a complementary picture of the social context in which the patient finds themselves.
Working at the Addiction Medicine Clinic also involves extensive collaboration with care partners and networks around the patient. There are great opportunities for all employees to participate in ongoing or new development processes.
Your Qualifications
- Social worker (Socionom), with an interest in addiction care.
- Licensure as a healthcare social worker or experience working in operations with authority exercise or within addiction care is meritorious.
Your Competencies
The work requires that you have good cooperation skills and enjoy working in teams with other professional groups, but also that you have the ability to work independently.
We are looking for you who have a strong professional drive and a desire to contribute to and develop addiction care. You are engaged, solution-oriented, and work from a person-centered approach.
We place great emphasis on you having high professional integrity and taking responsibility for continuously keeping yourself updated regarding relevant legislation, current developments, and research within social work.
As a person, you are sensitive, empathetic, and have the ability to meet each individual where they are. You have a good ability to work both independently and as part of a team and find it easy to build trust and good relationships with patients and colleagues. Since the patient group often has complex care needs, the work requires great commitment, patience, and a problem-solving attitude.
Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

Region Uppsala values the qualities that equal gender distribution and diversity bring to the operations and welcomes applicants of all genders and with different birth backgrounds, functionalities, and life experiences.
Region Uppsala assigns all permanent staff to wartime duties based on the needs of the total defense. This means no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.
Before a decision on employment, a check of suspicion and criminal records is conducted for all job seekers who in the sought employment may come to work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care for addicts, areas covered by optional record extracts. This thus applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the tasks at present are not intended to mainly contain work with the aforementioned patient groups.
This recruitment is conducted entirely through Region Uppsala's efforts, and we decline phone calls from recruitment agencies and ad sales.
