About CHESS

CHESS was established in 2000 through an agreement between Stockholm University (SU) and Karolinska Institutet (KI). Since 2018, CHESS has operated within the framework of the Department of Public Health Sciences at SU and is led by a board and a director. The overarching goal is for CHESS to be nationally leading and internationally outstanding in research and knowledge regarding health inequality. CHESS also aims to communicate and collaborate with other universities, research environments, organizations, and networks, both nationally and internationally, within the field. As a centre formation, CHESS's main task is to promote the development of research on health inequality within the Department of Public Health Sciences at SU while simultaneously serving as a link in the collaboration between the department and KI within this research area.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a Research Assistant to join the CHESS team and participate in building our research infrastructure. The responsibilities are primarily linked to two sub-projects – EQUINODE and EQUITY 2000 – with the aim of generating and spreading knowledge about the development of health inequalities in Sweden over the last 25 years:

  • EQUINODE is a website with interactive graphics targeting policymakers, practitioners, and the interested public. Your tasks will include handling public statistics, conducting research within the field, generating graphics, and writing popular science texts.
  • EQUITY 2000 is a project material currently in the planning phase. The material is based on national and regional register data. Your tasks will include assisting the research group with register extracts, validating data, producing descriptive statistics, generating material for EQUINODE, and investigating alternative data sources that could complement EQUITY 2000 in the long term.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a Master's degree in Public Health Science.

Special emphasis will be placed on experience in research work and documented written reporting on topics relevant to CHESS's research field. Documented experience in web design, for example in the web publishing system WordPress, is a requirement.

Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

Proficiency in Swedish is a requirement for the position, as the Research Assistant is expected to independently write popular science texts in Swedish and engage with documentation related to national and regional registers.

The position requires a good ability to collaborate, efficiently organize work, perform tasks independently, and communicate about the project's results.

About the Position

The position is full-time and permanent, with a six-month probationary period. Start date: 2026-08-01 or by agreement. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting.
