The Faculty of Law in Uppsala is the oldest law faculty in the Nordic countries and was already present when the university was founded in 1477. Here you will find an extensive and highly regarded undergraduate and doctoral education. The Faculty includes the Department of Law, where approximately 200 people are employed.
Job Description
As a Research Assistant, you will have contact with researchers within the framework of the International Centre for Evidence-Based Criminal Law (EB-CRIME) as well as Forensic Evidence in domestic and sexual assault cases against women (FOREWOM). Both EB-CRIME and FOREWOM fall under the subject of criminal procedure law.
EB-CRIME is a group of 11 researchers specialized in law, psychology, legal genetics, forensic medicine, AI, etc. Our research aims to investigate methodological and human error sources that affect the criminal trial process. Specifically, we focus on oral statements, digital evidence, DNA, forensic medicine, skeletal analysis, and age assessments. More information about us and our research can be found at: https://www.uu.se/forskning/ebcrime (https://www.uu.se/forskning/ebcrime)
FOREWOM is a research collaboration between lawyers, geneticists, and practicing lawyers (e.g., prosecutors) that focuses on how modern forensic methods, primarily DNA analysis, can be used to improve the chances of prosecuting perpetrators in cases of sexual violence and domestic violence. We use combined research methods including, among other things, case law analysis. More information can be found at: https://www.uu.se/en/research/research-projects/project?query=2025-03993_VR (https://www.uu.se/en/research/research-projects/project?query=2025-03993_VR)
We are now looking for two assistants who can help with both research-related tasks and administrative tasks. The research-related tasks include, for example, support in data collection within the framework of the various projects. The administrative tasks include, for example, organizing meetings and conferences both in Sweden and abroad. We have arranged conferences at, among other places, the International Criminal Court in The Hague, the Norwegian Police University College & Kripos in Oslo, as well as the Department of Security and Crime Science, London.
If you proceed to an interview, we will discuss whether you will primarily be linked to EB-CRIME and/or FOREWOM.
Qualifications
As an applicant, you are an active student on the Law Programme at Uppsala University. Good knowledge of Swedish and English is required. Since the work involves daily contact with employed staff, it is important that you function well within the work team. You should have good initiative as well as a willingness and ability to collaborate.
Conditions
Only those who are admitted to education at the first or second cycle (undergraduate or advanced level) may be employed as assistants (Higher Education Act 5th Chapter, Section 10).
About the Employment
The employment is fixed-term according to the Higher Education Act 5th Chapter, Section 12. 6 months with the possibility of extension until the end of the study period. The extent is 20%. Start date: 2026-06-01 or alternatively 2026-09-01.
Place of work: Uppsala.
