About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and client transport.

The Kristianstad operational area is part of the Prison and Probation Service's Southern Region and currently comprises the Kristianstad Prison, located approximately 10 km south of Kristianstad. At present, the prison houses approximately 145 inmates and employs 120 staff members. We are undergoing a significant capacity increase, and much is happening in the operational area in terms of renovation and new construction. Within a few years, the new Vä Prison is expected to accommodate approximately 600 inmates and employ 500 staff members. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others also work here.

Job Description

As a caretaker (groundskeeper/building superintendent), your tasks will involve varied practical duties that require experience and the ability to plan your work well.

Your work takes place both indoors and outdoors and varies with the changing seasons, so it is important that you are physically fit and comfortable working outside year-round, regardless of the weather. The variety of the work requires you to be able to plan your workday well and structure your tasks. Your flexibility is important, and you understand that change is part of the workday.

You will have daily contact with clients as you move around most of the facility.

You are a curious and positive person with initiative, creating positive contacts both internally and externally, and you have good teamwork skills. As a person, you are observant, meticulous, reliable, and engaged. You see what needs to be done and ensure it gets done, and you can plan and manage your daily work independently.

Duties will include, for example:

• Transportation within the facility, such as transporting food and laundry, as well as storing and moving furniture and other equipment
• Waste management from operations
• Cleaning of outdoor areas and removal of litter
• Some gardening tasks may occur
• Snow clearing and sanding
• Mail and package handling

Qualifications

Your personal qualities are important. As a caretaker, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you take great responsibility, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
• Category B driver's license

The following are also considered meritorious:

• Previous experience working as a caretaker within a municipality or agency
• Experience in logistics
• Experience with machinery used in performing common tasks
• Forklift license
• Good computer skills
