About SVA

Dangerous animal diseases can have serious consequences for animals, humans, the economy, and food security. The National Veterinary Institute (SVA) is an expert and emergency preparedness authority that contributes to good animal health and reduced disease transmission between animals and humans through diagnostics, research, and expert knowledge. SVA is part of the emergency preparedness sector for Food Supply and Drinking Water. Healthy animals – secure people.

The position is located within the Department of Microbiology (MIK), which works in the public interest for healthy animals and humans. We achieve this by conducting diagnostics, contributing to SVA's role as a national and European reference laboratory, maintaining readiness, and deepening existing and developing new knowledge about infectious diseases. We also adopt and adapt new technologies and diagnostics based on the needs of SVA and Sweden.

Your future responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to the laboratory's diagnostics, development, and quality work, as well as participating in the establishment of the national reference laboratory for plant pests. This is a unique opportunity for you if you want to help build an operation from the ground up.

The tasks vary, and you will among other things:

  • Perform laboratory work and diagnostics using both established and modern analytical methods
  • Contribute to method development as well as the establishment and further development of the laboratory's infrastructure
  • Be responsible for developing methods, instruments, and working practices within the operation
  • Actively participate in quality and improvement work
  • Help build the national reference laboratory for plant pests together with a team of approximately seven people
  • Collaborate closely with other sections within the department's research and diagnostic activities

The section is in a setup phase, which gives you the opportunity to influence working methods, techniques, and the laboratory's future development in close collaboration with colleagues and experts in the field.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who:

  • Are educated as a biomedical laboratory scientist or equivalent as assessed by the employer
  • Have several years of experience in laboratory work and method development
  • Have good knowledge of Office 365 and express yourself well in Swedish or English, both orally and in writing
  • Have documented experience in developing methods within diagnostics

Merits

It is an advantage if you have experience from accredited diagnostic activities and practical work with microorganisms such as bacteria, nematodes, or fungi. Experience with various analytical techniques, such as microscopy and isolation of organisms from plant material, is also seen as positive. We would appreciate that you have knowledge of result management in laboratory information systems and experience working according to international standards.
