Department of Clinical Sciences

Are you a small animal veterinarian who enjoys client interaction and delivering first-class veterinary care? Do you want to contribute to educating tomorrow's veterinarians? Are you perhaps interested in participating in a clinical research project? All of this is possible if you work with us at the small animal department of the University Hospital for Animals! We welcome your application!

About the job

As a licensed veterinarian at UDS, you will work in a varied daily routine in a 24/7 operation at Sweden's only university hospital for animals.

The position is primarily focused on animal healthcare but includes extensive elements of basic education for veterinary students, offering a stimulating and varied workday. Pedagogical training will be offered, as well as support from experienced colleagues.

The work also includes evening, night, and weekend shifts. After a period with limited opening hours, the operation has been running 24/7 again since March 2026.

Your background

You are a licensed veterinarian with the right to practice veterinary medicine in Sweden. It is an advantage if you can work independently, handle emergency cases during on-call hours, and feel confident in medical assessments and emergency surgery. It is also an advantage if you have Step 1 competence in canine and feline diseases or equivalent, and if you have teaching experience.

Good knowledge of English is required, and you either speak a Scandinavian language or are willing to learn Swedish within approximately 2-3 years.

At the University Hospital for Animals, we are customer-focused and value a professional approach. You are communicative with a good ability to create and maintain good relationships with clients and colleagues. You are interested in teaching and participating in creating good conditions for research. As a veterinarian at the university hospital, you have a scientific approach and an interest in evidence-based care.

As a person, you have good teamwork skills, are structured, have good self-insight, and a desire to contribute to the operation. You understand that an event-driven emergency operation with irregular working hours is something you can handle. You have an understanding of what stresses you but also how your colleagues can be affected by a occasionally stressful work environment.

In this recruitment, we will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
