Our Operations

Molecular Diagnostics and Clinical Genetics is an expanding basic specialty and one of five sections within the Academic Laboratory. Our catchment area is the Healthcare Region of Central Sweden, and the section has more than 100 employees working with healthcare, research, teaching, and development.

Our mandate includes patient clinics, consultancy services, and laboratory diagnostics for genetically determined diseases and conditions. Patients from across the healthcare region are referred to our clinic for clinical genetic diagnostics, investigation, and genetic counseling. We have a close collaboration with Uppsala University and highly value research and development.

Clinical Genetics has no on-call duties or standby requirements. The operations are accredited according to ISO 15189, environmentally certified according to ISO 14001, and we apply the guidelines in SOSFS 2015:18 for specialist training.

Your Role

As a resident physician (ST-läkare), you will work in both patient clinics and laboratory operations. The clinic placements include oncogenetics, pediatric genetics, and general genetics. You will make clinical assessments and investigate patients with diseases and conditions of genetic origin. Conversations with patients and families about hereditary diseases are a central part of the work. You provide genetic counseling and recommendations for further care and follow-up together with our genetic counselors.

You will meet patients with a broad spectrum of diseases, which requires sensitivity and strong analytical skills. The role also includes written and telephone consultations for colleagues and healthcare providers within the Healthcare Region of Central Sweden.

You will also have a placement in our laboratory where you work with the assessment and reporting of diagnostic analyses together with our hospital geneticists. Since knowledge about genetic factors and new diagnostic methods is continuously developing, the role offers a stimulating environment with close links between clinical work, research, and development.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed physician with an interest in clinical genetics, preferably with previous experience within the specialty. You want to contribute to the development of the field and have an interest in both clinical diagnostics and laboratory analyses.

Experience in research and development work is meritorious, and it is an advantage if you have a PhD. You must have a Swedish medical license, completed internship (AT) or basic training (BT), good knowledge of Swedish at level C1, and good ability to express yourself in English, both orally and in writing.
