Job Description
The energy system is facing a very extensive transition, which includes major changes to the electricity system, electrification and digitalization of all sectors, increased electricity demand, and more intermittent electricity production. This creates new challenges for the future energy system, such as resilience, grid stability, power shortages, energy storage, preparedness, vulnerability, flexibility, new business models, sector collaboration, etc.
As a researcher, you will, among other things, be part of the national competence center Resilient, https://sites.mdu.se/resilient (https://sites.mdu.se/resilient), and collaborate with other researchers, companies, and other actors in an interdisciplinary environment.
As a researcher, you will primarily engage in research. Your work may also include participation in other departmental duties, up to 20% of full-time employment.
The main tasks include
Research and Development: Participation in and leadership of research projects within resilient energy systems, ancillary services, and energy storage.
Applying for external research funding: Active participation in applying for external research funding for projects and research programs within resilient energy systems, energy storage, and ancillary services in collaboration with other universities, research institutes, and industry, both nationally and internationally.
Collaboration: The work involves building and strengthening relationships with external actors within resilient energy systems, energy storage, and power balancing, such as companies and other universities.
The workplace is in Gävle, and most of the working time is based on campus, with close collaboration with colleagues, students, and external partners.
Qualifications
To be employed as a researcher, you are required to have:
- A PhD in the field of energy systems with specialization in so-called power-balanced services or equivalent.
- Documented experience and knowledge in resilient energy systems, ancillary services, and energy storage.
- Documented experience and knowledge in modeling and simulation of district heating systems and power grids, and experience with software such as MATLAB, Python, or equivalent.
- Experience in applying for external research funding for projects in collaboration with industry.
- Ability to independently drive high-quality scientific research.
- Good ability to express yourself in both Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.
It is important that the applicant, considering the content and duties of the position, has good collaboration skills and is proactive and independent. You also need to be responsible, have integrity, and be receptive and open to new ideas and perspectives.
Conditions
The employment is a special fixed-term appointment.
