Occupational Therapist at the Vision Clinic, Eskilstuna

Do you have a strong interest in technology and are motivated by providing solutions that make daily life easier for people with visual impairments? Then we are looking for you to join our vision clinic.

About Us

We are looking for an occupational therapist with a strong interest in IT and assistive devices. We offer you inspiring and varied work in a good work climate with close collaboration in the interdisciplinary team.

Within our operations, there is a continuous improvement process where all employees are involved. The vision clinic is a specialist service covering the entire county, with clinics in Eskilstuna and Nyköping.

The clinic's mission is to provide rehabilitative and habilitative interventions for people with varying degrees and types of visual impairment or other vision-affecting conditions. The work takes place in an interdisciplinary team consisting of an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, counselor, optometrist, vision educator, and medical secretary. The work is varied and diverse, adapted to the patient's needs and the clinic's daily routines and working methods. We work according to the nationally developed care process for the vision area and register our interventions and action plans in the quality register SKRS.

The vision clinic is part of the habilitation service, which is included in the Psychiatry and Disability Division within Region Sörmland. We work to create conditions for children, young people, and adults with permanent disabilities to lead an active and independent life through developing, supporting, and compensatory interventions. Habilitation is a complement to other healthcare services.

Your Responsibilities

The occupational therapist's special assignment at the clinic involves meeting and training patients, relatives, and networks who need IT support. These visits can take place at the clinics, during home visits, or at schools.

You will conduct a mapping and assessment of the patient's needs for adjustments to the digital devices the patient uses, and prescribe computer assistive devices in situations where adjustments are not sufficient.

You will be an important part of the team and participate in various meetings concerning both the patient and the clinic's working methods and operational development. The role includes following the prescription process, documenting in medical records, making special applications, testing out and training in assistive devices, and following up on these. All patients have an individual action plan.

The role involves inspiring, supervising, and providing pedagogical support in the use of digital tools, keeping up with development, news, updates, and changes in the field. The assignment also includes creating quick guides for patients, relatives, networks, and relevant staff in schools or various types of elderly housing.

Some of the specific recurring tasks include interventions with mobile phones/tablets with adjustments and training in vision adaptations such as voice control, Talkback, and VoiceOver. You should be aware of useful apps, AI functions, etc., and be able to pair mobile phones and tablets with keyboards or braille displays.

You will have close collaboration with technicians at the Assistive Technology Center and a network for exchanging experiences with like-minded ICT professionals nationally.

Your Competence

We are looking for you who are a licensed occupational therapist. You are expected to be able to work both individually and in a team and be flexible in your working methods.

You are a confident person with good communication skills, both verbal and written. You have great patience and the ability and willingness to help other people. A holistic view and structured approach with the patient in focus are required to contribute to the team achieving the patient's goals.

We have a person-centered working method and place great emphasis on good and pedagogical treatment as well as personal suitability.

Travel in the work occurs as we have clinics in both Eskilstuna and Nyköping.
