Welcome to us
The Urban Environment Department works with strategic program and project activities, environmental monitoring, supervision, and provides expert support in the areas of water, nature, and environmentally hazardous substances. The department consists of 53 employees divided into four units: the Nature Environment Unit, the Land and Water Unit, the Planning and Traffic Unit, and the Chemicals Centre.
The Nature Environment Unit consists of 14 employees with backgrounds in ecology, environmental protection, physical geography, and GIS. Our work is characterized by engagement, high competence, and close collaboration. We have a good atmosphere and continuously develop our way of working together.
Within the city and at the Environmental Administration in particular, there is a shift in how we work with digital platforms, data collection, reporting, and analysis. In recent years, the Environmental Administration has increased the pace of development work through, among other things, the digitalization of business processes, improved data management, and the launch of a new geodata platform. We see an increased need to improve our operations and offer better service to other administrations and companies as well as to our residents and businesses by using digitalization, data management, and data sharing. Now we are looking for an engaged and driven person who wants to drive the development work forward during a fixed-term position lasting until October 2027.

Your role
You will work as a specialist in GIS and environmental data. Together with colleagues, you will contribute to developing our ability to collect, manage, analyze, and share data. You will assist the entire Environmental Administration with GIS analyses based on the needs of their operations. You visualize and communicate results to contribute to new insights and strengthen the city's prerequisites for sustainable urban development.
You play an important role in the Environmental Administration's working group on geodata, where you, together with project managers and the project team, will work with both the management and development of geodata. You participate in the entire chain from collection to structuring, database management, analysis, visualization, and compilation and communication of results. Your competence and creativity are an important part of increasing the usability of our materials both within the administration and externally.
Your competence and experience
We are looking for you who have
- post-secondary education in urban planning, environmental science, or another similar education that we assess as equivalent
- very good knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Portal
- experience in analyzing data, visualizing results, and transforming complex information into clear and accessible presentations
- good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish and English.
It is meritorious if you have:
- experience with GIS and geodata
- experience in one of the following areas: climate adaptation, ecology and biodiversity, water including remediation work, and contaminated land
- knowledge of programming languages used for geodata processing, such as Python, ArcPy, Arcade, or similar
- knowledge of database management
- experience with FME
