Your Role
As a Program Controller at WaterAid, you will have an important and developing role where you contribute to strengthening our financial control, economic management, and internal procedures. You ensure that we meet the requirements of our funders, while simultaneously contributing to developing and strengthening the capacity of the civil society organizations we collaborate with in our international program activities.
- Ensures compliance with funder requirements, particularly within Sida-funded programs.
- Supports program teams in drafting agreements, applications, and amendments, and assists with budgets for grant applications.
- Reviews financial and audit reports and compiles materials for donors.
- Supports country programs and partners during audits and is responsible for audits in Sweden.
- Strengthens partner organizations' capacity in financial management, internal control, and audit readiness.
- Conducts project reviews and ensures that bookkeeping is updated with current accounting information in accordance with the K3 accounting standards.
- Strengthens the quality of budgets, monitoring, reporting, and audits.
- Provides support to managers and colleagues on issues regarding financial risk, internal control, and compliance.
- Develops, coordinates, and improves WaterAid Sweden's economic routines, documentation, and internal control related to grants and program financing.
- Collaborates with colleagues within the federation to develop work on planning, management, and monitoring of earmarked grants.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
- Fluent proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- Relevant academic education in economics, accounting, or a related field.
- 5–7 years of experience in grant management, controlling, and financial management within international development cooperation, preferably within the civil society sector.
- Good knowledge of institutional funders' financial requirements, regulations, and financial frameworks.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and improving economic routines, processes, and internal control.
- Good understanding of financial management, accountability, and monitoring in grant-funded programs.
- Experience with audits and collaborating with auditors.
It is meritorious if you have experience in organizational development with civil society organizations in low- and middle-income countries.

Conditions of Employment
The position is full-time with a 38-hour work week and target-oriented working hours. Start date is by agreement. We apply a six-month probation period, after which the position becomes permanent. WaterAid Sweden uses Fremia's white-collar employee agreement as a collective agreement. You report directly to the Head of Finance and Administration.
We have a generous hybrid policy aimed at creating a sustainable balance between work and leisure. The location is Stockholm, and it is possible to work both remotely and from WaterAid's office in Hammarby Sjöstad.
