Workplace Description

The Infection Control Unit is a regional authority function responsible for preventing and limiting the spread of infectious diseases in Uppsala County. The mandate includes exercising authority according to the Communicable Diseases Act.

As an Infection Control Physician, your direct manager is the Director of Health and Medical Care. The role involves close collaboration with the Unit Manager at the Infection Control Unit and Strama. Together, you are responsible for leading and developing the operations. The Infection Control Physician holds the overall and authoritative responsibility for infection control work, while the Unit Manager is responsible for economy, operational management, and personnel.

The Infection Control Unit and Strama consist of twelve employees, two of whom work part-time as Assistant Infection Control Physicians. The operations are located in Uppsala Science Park and are organizationally placed within the Department of Health and Medical Care, led by the Director of Health and Medical Care. The department is part of Region Uppsala's Management Office, which has a governing, supportive, and coordinating role within the region.

Your Assignment

As an Infection Control Physician, you have the overall responsibility for planning, organizing, and leading the infection control work in the region. The assignment aims to ensure efficiency, coordination, and consistency in regional infection control work.

The work is based on the Communicable Diseases Act and includes, among other things:

• Epidemiological surveillance and analysis.
• Preventive infection control measures and strategic development work.
• Outbreak management.
• Vaccination coordination.
• Planning and management of pandemic and epidemic situations.
• Regional, national, and international environmental scanning.

In the role, you represent Region Uppsala in contact with the public, healthcare staff, healthcare providers, municipalities, authorities, business, civil society, and media in matters concerning infectious diseases and preventive measures.

Qualifications

• Licensed physician with specialist competence in infectious diseases or clinical microbiology, as well as several years of clinical experience as a specialist.
• Experience of infection control work and epidemiology.

Meritorious Qualifications

• Experience in leading and collaborating on complex issues.
• Experience in research and development work.

You have very good communication skills and are skilled at conveying messages both orally and in writing.
