On the ward, you will meet patients of various ages being treated for medical and surgical eye conditions. We offer stimulating work within basic and highly specialized eye surgery, in close collaboration with the clinic's other units.
ResponsibilitiesThe ward consists of 12 beds and is open 24/7. Here, we care for both acute and elective patients scheduled for surgery. During evenings, nights, and weekends, we operate an acute reception unit and provide a counseling hotline on Ward 49. You will learn to work with technical equipment used in eye care, as well as perform vision tests and similar tasks. The ward has a high patient turnover, with an average length of stay of two days, as most patients come from other parts of the country.
This is a one-year temporary position with the possibility of extension. The role is full-time with scheduled working hours, including every third weekend.

About the DepartmentThe Ophthalmology Section is located across our three hospitals in the county (Örebro, Karlskoga, and Lindesberg). We have over 145 employees, including 22 in administration. Since April 1, 2025, we have had a county mandate for specialized eye care. Our operations include a clinic, operating department, ward, and administration. We have a busy clinic where we receive approximately 45,000 patient visits annually and perform around 5,000 surgeries. The administrative unit collaborates with all units and professional categories within the department. Since February 2021, our operations have been housed in the high-tech H-house.
Örebro University Hospital (USÖ) is one of the county's three emergency hospitals, where we provide advanced healthcare, research, and education. In both 2019 and 2020, USÖ received the prestigious award "Best University Hospital" from the magazine Dagens Medicin. USÖ won the most prestigious category, medical quality, and had the best results in accessibility, economy, and avoiding pressure ulcers and overcrowding. USÖ also tops the results in heart, renal failure, and vascular surgery. USÖ has approximately 3,500 employees.
