We are now looking for a licensed veterinary nurse to join our night team at AniCura Kumla Animal Hospital. You will work 34 hours per week, scheduled from 20:00–08:00 – a shift where the quiet can sometimes be palpable, but where everything can change quickly. The night is about being one step ahead in the silence, reading small changes in time, and creating a sense of security together with the team when it is needed most. Here, you are the one who holds everything together when it really counts.

About AniCura Kumla Animal Hospital AniCura Kumla Animal Hospital offers high-quality medical, emergency, and surgical veterinary care in a dynamic emergency department and pleasant environment. AniCura Animal Hospital Kumla is part of the North region, which includes animal hospitals and clinics in fourteen locations. The hospital consists of the departments of emergency, care, surgery, outpatient clinic, rehab, as well as support functions such as telephone and reception.

I am Jens Berisson, the recruiter and hospital manager here at the animal hospital. We now want to strengthen our wonderful team and are looking for a Licensed Veterinary Nurse who is passionate about veterinary care and wants to continue developing the hospital together with us.

About the job The clock reads 01:42. It is quiet in the corridors, but not completely silent in your radar. A patient needs follow-up. The phone rings. You notice something that isn't quite right on the ward before anyone has had a chance to say it out loud. This is where you come in and make a difference.

As a licensed veterinary nurse in our night team, you have overall responsibility for patient care during the night hours. You work independently but in close collaboration with the rest of the team, handling both planned nursing care and emergency situations, with a focus on providing patients with the right care at the right time. The role also involves contact with pet owners, where you inform, guide, and create calm in difficult situations in a safe and professional manner.

You are responsible for accurate documentation and safe handover to enable a patient-safe shift change. The work is characterized by variety, responsibility, and close collaboration in an engaged and cohesive team.

A night with us might involve you…

  • During rounds, noticing early and subtle changes in patients and adjusting care before the condition worsens.
  • Quickly adapting to emergency situations and, together with the team, creating structure, focus, and clear direction in the moment.
  • Working with anesthesia with high precision – where small observations can be crucial for the patient's stability.
  • Contacting pet owners to inform, guide, and create security in pressurized and emotionally difficult situations.
  • Ensuring that documentation and handover are done carefully and structured so the next shift can continue seamlessly.

You start your shift together with the evening team in the emergency department. During the night, you collaborate closely with the veterinarian, and from 03:00 you take independent overall responsibility for the emergency operations.

Who we are looking for You are a licensed veterinary nurse with a few years of work experience and thrive in a role where you take responsibility and work independently, while also being a clear part of the team throughout the night. We believe you have confidence in clinical work and the ability to quickly switch between planned interventions and unexpected situations.

We believe you:

  • Have an interest in emergency care and like to be where the action is.
  • Are confident in your professional role and dare to make decisions.
  • Have good observation skills and notice details that are crucial for the patient.
  • Are solution-oriented – you get things done, even at 04:37.
  • Communicate clearly and warmly, both with colleagues and pet owners.
  • Communicate fluently in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
  • Have anesthesia competence.

And perhaps most importantly: you thrive in a night-time work environment where both independence and collaboration are crucial.
