Description
The Urban Environment Administration has overall responsibility for the city's public spaces and overall accessibility. We work to create accessible, attractive, and vibrant urban environments and natural areas. The Administration owns and manages the tram network in Gothenburg. Approximately 900 people work at the Administration.
The Urban Environment Administration is part of the city-development administrations in Gothenburg City. Together, we work to create the conditions for functional infrastructure, quality housing and premises, an inviting public environment, and we advocate for the city to be sustainable from all perspectives.
Responsibilities
Do you want to take a leading role in the development of Gothenburg with a focus on complex structures and civil engineering? The Urban Environment Administration is seeking a Project Manager with experience in construction and civil engineering, with the opportunity to work on the city's long-term work regarding canal walls, bridges, harbors, quays, as well as tram and railway projects. As a Project Manager, you are responsible for the planning and implementation of investment and reinvestment projects with varying content and complexity.
The projects involve technical upgrades in a complex urban environment, often in close proximity to water, traffic, operations, and culturally significant environments. They range from smaller reinforcement measures to larger phased contracts with extensive technical and logistical challenges, with the goal of creating long-term sustainable, safe, and value-adding solutions for the city and its inhabitants.
In this role, you are responsible for:
- Leading projects through the phases of detailed investigation, design, and production
- Ensuring technical quality in concrete and foundation structures
- Steering projects towards established goals regarding time, economy, and content
- Conducting technical, economic, and social assessments in accordance with the Administration's requirements
- Leading and coordinating internal specialists as well as consultants and contractors
- Collaborating with other administrations and companies in the city, as well as external actors and operations. Reporting project progress in accordance with the Urban Environment Administration's routines.
- Managing risks, change orders, and additional work, as well as contract follow-up.
You have an independent and leading role where you drive projects forward and act as an advisor and support in the unit's daily work, including goal follow-up and activity planning.
The role primarily covers construction and civil engineering projects, but may also include other investment projects in the city's public spaces, such as streets, parks, squares, and pedestrian and cycle paths, depending on the needs of the operation. You work in project organizations together with planners, landscape architects, managers, communicators, engineers, and other specialists to ensure holistic solutions based on aesthetics, function, environment, as well as future operations and maintenance.
Within the organization, there is strong project management competence where project managers and project owners work closely together, share experiences, and develop the operation. Team spirit, knowledge exchange, and shared responsibility are central to the working method, where you together contribute to a sustainable and progressive development of Gothenburg's urban environments.
Qualifications
We expect you to have a strong technical foundation and several years of experience leading complex construction and civil engineering-related projects such as bridges, tunnels, quays, harbors, retaining walls, or other experience deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Several years of experience in the role of Project Manager, Project Engineer, Construction Manager, Assignment Manager, Site Manager, Technical Manager, or equivalent, where you have been responsible for budget, forecasts, and economic follow-up in construction or civil engineering projects.
- Master of Science in Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Construction/Civil Engineering, Road and Water Construction, or equivalent education/experience deemed equivalent by the employer, for example, vocational college education with several years of work experience.
- Documented experience of construction and civil engineering projects, for example, in bridges, tunnels, walls, quays, foundations, ground stabilization, or other load-bearing structures. Experience from street/road, tram, squares, or other urban environment projects is an asset.
- Practical and documented experience of contract law for construction (AB 04/ABT06) as well as notice management in consultant and construction contracts. Experience with consultant contract law (ABK09) is an asset.
- Experience with AMA Construction/AMA Building and MER Construction.
- Good contract and negotiation skills.
- Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish.
- Class B driver's license
Personal Attributes
Great importance will be attached to personal suitability, where you as a Project Manager are expected to:
- Work independently, structured, and with the ability to adapt your working method based on changing conditions.
- Take clear ownership of your projects and work goal-oriented towards set goals
- Contribute to the whole through active collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Motivate and inspire your project team
- Act stably and professionally in technically and organizationally complex situations
- Strong ability to create clarity, structure, and coordination in projects with many actors and interfaces
