Counselor in Domestic Violence – Project Position until April 2027

About the Unit and Workplace

This position belongs to the Domestic Violence Unit, which falls under the department "A Safe and Healthy Life." You will be the sole counselor on this unit but will be part of the outpatient team under the Substance Abuse and Addiction Unit. There, you will receive collegial support from a team leader, case handlers, and a permanent counselor specializing in domestic violence.

The core mission of the Welfare Administration is to provide support and assistance to help people become self-sufficient and lead independent lives. Through investigations and interventions, we offer support, help, and services to children, youth, and adults, while also promoting adult learning.

Kristinehamn Municipality has approximately 24,000 inhabitants and is located on the shores of Lake Vänern in Värmland. The area offers a favorable business climate, a rich cultural and leisure life, and access to beautiful nature and archipelago.

Job Responsibilities

As a counselor specializing in domestic violence, you will provide psychosocial support to individuals who have experienced violence, as well as support to their relatives. You will play a vital role in the municipality's efforts to prevent and counteract domestic violence. You will work both independently and in close collaboration with the permanent domestic violence counselor and other colleagues within the municipality.

Responsibilities include:

  • Individual counseling and crisis support for victims of violence
  • Collaboration with colleagues, authorities, and non-profit organizations

Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Work, Behavioral Sciences, or equivalent education combined with relevant experience
  • Experience working with victims of violence
  • Experience with FREDA, Sara-V3, and Patriark systems
  • Knowledge of current legislation

Familiarity with Kristinehamn Municipality is considered an advantage.

This role requires the ability to take responsibility and drive your work forward. You must maintain a strong structure for documentation, planning, and follow-up to ensure thorough and systematic operations. It is also important that you can adapt to different situations and individuals, as the work may involve rapid changes.

Furthermore, you must demonstrate strong collaboration skills, listening, communicating, and treating others with respect. Your ability to build relationships is central to establishing trust, creating safety, and providing support and guidance. Finally, you need empathy to meet people with understanding while maintaining a professional approach.

Employment Terms

Employment type: Fixed-term contract.
Duration: 6 months or longer.

If you are not a citizen of Sweden, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland and are offered employment, you must be able to prove that you have a valid work permit or are exempt from the requirement to have one.
