Statistician at the Swedish Chemicals Agency – Driving Sustainable Development
The Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemikalieinspektionen) is a government authority tasked with reducing the risks to humans and the environment from chemicals. As an employee with us, you will be part of a significant effort for sustainable development in Sweden, within the EU, and globally. We have 250 employees, and our office is located in central Sundbyberg.
The position is based at the Product Register and Chemical Statistics Unit, which is part of the Supervision and Advisory Department. The unit is responsible for a register of chemical products and genetically modified organisms manufactured in or imported to Sweden. We assist approximately 3,000 companies with their chemical registrations. The unit is also responsible for official statistics and knowledge bases to monitor and follow the development of chemicals in Sweden. The information in the register is used for supervision, regulatory development, and as a basis for the annual chemical fee.
We are looking for you to develop and strengthen our statistical activities!
Responsibilities
The Swedish Chemicals Agency needs to strengthen its work with official statistics by developing and enhancing work processes and statistical products. This is a new role that will serve as both a unifying and driving force. The role involves work with both official statistics and other statistics and knowledge bases. It is a broad role encompassing coordination, development, and operational statistical work.
You will work with:
- Developing and implementing processes and routines for the production of official statistics and other statistics.
- Systematic quality work for the production of official statistics.
- Supporting the production and compilation of official statistics and other statistics.
- Operational statistical work, e.g., quality declarations, statistical compilation, contacts with Statistics Sweden (SCB), open data, data availability, and statistical platforms/digital prerequisites.
- Developing new statistics and maintaining contact with stakeholders regarding needs and requests.
- Participating in various assignments, sometimes in a project management role.
- Working closely with the register, which serves as the data source for the statistics.
- Other tasks within the unit.
The goal is for the Swedish Chemicals Agency's statistics to be relevant, useful, credible, and produced with quality. We work with curiosity to generate and disseminate knowledge about the chemical situation in Sweden.
The work is varied and may shift over time depending on current assignments, as the unit is an active part of both the department's and the authority's joint operations. You will collaborate with various competencies within the unit but also maintain contacts with other parts of the organization, stakeholders, and other statistical authorities.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- A Bachelor's degree with a focus on statistics (including 60 credits in statistics) or other relevant education deemed equivalent by the Swedish Chemicals Agency.
- At least three years of experience in the production of official statistics.
- At least three years of experience in data processing, statistical compilation, and statistical analysis.
- Experience working with register data or large datasets.
- Experience in coordinating or project management roles.
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both written and spoken.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Experience in planning and leading the implementation of production processes for official statistics.
- Experience in developing new ways of working.
- Experience in compilation, knowledge dissemination, and data visualization.
- Programming skills in SQL or experience with other established statistical software.
- Worked with statistics in the natural sciences field, e.g., chemistry, agriculture, or pesticides.
Personal Attributes
We are looking for someone who is meticulous, structured, and quality-conscious, with analytical skills and the ability to see the big picture in your work. You have a high level of initiative and find it easy to prioritize. You can handle multiple tasks in parallel while driving work forward independently.
You are an engaged person who takes responsibility for your tasks. You appreciate working together with colleagues with different competencies and experiences. With good communication skills, you actively contribute to a good collaborative climate with both internal and external parties.
We are in a phase where the focus is on building and using knowledge, and here you will have the opportunity to participate in shaping and developing the operations together with your colleagues. Great importance will be attached to your personal attributes and abilities.
