Do you want to lead technically complex projects that deliver concrete societal benefits – while working closely with trains and technology? At Transitio, you will meet a friendly company with a modern headquarters in central Stockholm. We are now looking for a project manager who wants to take responsibility for upgrades, reconstructions, and lifecycle projects on existing vehicles, where you will contribute to Sweden's regional rail travel.
About Transitio
Transitio is a company owned by twenty regions in Sweden, with the mission to procure, finance, and manage rail vehicles for regional public transport. The company's purpose is to optimize the owners' vehicle costs and ensure high quality in procurement, management, and maintenance. Transitio manages a significant portion of Sweden's regional vehicle fleet and plays a central role in the country's rail traffic.
Here, you will work in an organization with short decision-making paths, allowing you to quickly take responsibility and contribute your own ideas. If you want to influence and develop working methods, processes, and project methodologies in a stimulating environment, you will thrive here. Transitio offers a technology-intensive job where you have the opportunity to develop within railway technology and vehicle maintenance.
With a focus on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and sustainability, Transitio is an inclusive company that invests in continuous competence development. You will also have the chance to participate in trade fairs and develop within an industry with high ambitions. Values are a central part of Transitio's corporate culture, and they describe themselves as team players, initiators, and value creators.
Responsibilities
In the role of project manager, you are primarily responsible for driving upgrade, reconstruction, and management projects on Transitio's existing vehicle fleet. This can range from upgrading technical systems and replacing components to larger modernization projects, such as the installation of new signaling systems.
You will lead projects through the entire lifecycle – from needs analysis and planning to implementation and handover – following Transitio's established project model with clear processes and templates. The role involves a lot of independent work combined with close collaboration with vehicle managers, lessees, and technical specialists.
You will manage schedules, budgets, risks, deviations, documentation, follow-up, and reporting. You ensure that procurements and deliveries comply with relevant regulations (such as LUF) and that project goals are achieved within time, cost, and quality. You have an advisory role towards lessees and regions and act as the hub between technology, business, and operations.
Specific responsibilities:
Lead upgrade, reconstruction, and management projects for existing rail vehicles
Be responsible for schedules, budgets, project quality, risk management, follow-up, and reporting
Coordinate internal resources, consultants, and suppliers
Ensure requirement definition, documentation, and project control according to Transitio's processes and models
Handle contacts with authorities and necessary permits
Education, experience, and competence
Requirements
University degree or equivalent relevant professional experience
At least 10 years of work experience, including at least 5 years of experience in project management of complex technical systems with a long lifecycle, such as railways, aviation, buses, boats, or the process industry
Experience with established project control methodologies
Experience in supplier and consultant management
Good knowledge of budget processes and financial follow-up
Fluent Swedish and very good English, both spoken and written
Merits
Experience with public procurement
IPMA, PMP certification, or advanced project management training
Experience in the railway industry
Broad technical generalist competence
Knowledge of quality systems and industry-specific regulations
Personal qualities
You thrive in a role where structure, clarity, and order are crucial for success. You are communicative, transparent, and confident in handling many stakeholders. Since projects often involve changes, delivery challenges, and time pressure, you need to be solution-oriented, analytical, and confident in your professional role. To thrive at Transitio, you need to appreciate a culture where people help each other and where you have an advisory role. You take responsibility, follow established frameworks and models, and drive projects forward in a professional manner with good collaboration skills.
