Herrestaskolan opened its doors in January 2016 and today offers a modern and inspiring learning environment for approximately 400 students in grades F–6. Since the autumn term of 2023, an adapted primary school has also been included in the operations. The school is located in the heart of Barkarbystaden – beautifully surrounded by green areas and close to good transport links.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a school speech therapist, you will work on language development with students who are linguistically vulnerable, both in small groups and individually. You will be part of the school's special education team and student health team, working closely with teachers and other staff to create accessible learning environments for all students. The assignment covers the entire operation from preschool class to grade 6, including certain interventions within the adapted primary school.

The work is designed in consultation with the teaching teachers and is based on the linguistic needs that affect students' learning in the classroom. In the younger ages, the interventions often focus on grammar, vocabulary, concept development, and early reading skills. In the middle school, the emphasis is more on reading comprehension, concept development, and written skills.

The role also includes conducting assessments and screenings of students' language and communication development, as well as planning, implementing, and following up on language interventions related to the curriculum goals. You contribute your expertise to the work with action programs and evaluation of interventions.

As a school speech therapist, you will guide educational staff on issues related to language disorders and reading and writing difficulties. You are part of the student health team and participate regularly in student health meetings.

If needed, you will assist in the work with referral documents to speech therapy clinics and collaborate with external providers regarding students who are already in contact with a speech therapist. The assignment also includes assisting with applications to specialized services, such as Hällsboskolan (SPSM).

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who:

• is a licensed speech therapist
• has experience working with children and students, preferably in a school environment
• has good knowledge of language disorders and reading and writing difficulties
• has experience with linguistic assessments, screenings, and treatments
• has a good understanding of the school's mission, governing documents, and learning environments
• has the ability to work both independently and in close collaboration with teachers, special educators, and other staff
• has experience in guidance or consultative work with educators
• has a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish

It is an advantage if you:

• have experience working as a school speech therapist
• have knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC)
• have experience working with multilingual students
• have experience in student health
• have experience collaborating with external actors, such as speech therapy clinics
