Postdoctoral Researcher in Regenerative Biology and Cancer Biology
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's top universities. It has around 47,000 students and more than 8,800 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our pursuit to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of human life.
Lund University welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Equality, equal opportunities, and diversity are fundamental principles in all areas of our operations.
Workplace Description
The postdoctoral researcher will join the dynamic Laboratory for Regenerative Immunology (https://www.stemcellcenter.lu.se/research-groups/leigh), currently consisting of three PhD students, three postdoctoral researchers, one master's student, and one animal technician. The laboratory is located within the Department of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy (MMGT) at the Biomedical Centre (BMC). MMGT houses laboratories with a wealth of complementary expertise in stem cell biology and gene editing. More information about the laboratory can be found here (https://leighnd.github.io/).
We Offer
Lund University is a government agency, which means you will receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favorable occupational pension. Read more on the university's website about being employed with us: Work with us (https://www.lu.se/om-universitetet/jobba-hos-oss).
Job Responsibilities and Duties
You will be responsible for leading and managing a project focused on understanding the relationship between regenerative biology and cancer biology. This means you will work with salamanders (Pleurodeles waltl). More specifically, you will create transgenic salamanders using CRISPR/Cas technology and develop advanced tools for conditional depletion. The work aims to uncover the role of cell cycle regulators in regeneration, cancer, and how regenerative tissue manages to resist tumorigenic transformation. You will be responsible for compiling results into compelling figures, delivering oral presentations, writing manuscripts, and supervising students. You are expected to learn basic R or Python to create graphs and analyze data.
Eligibility
To be eligible for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher, the applicant must have obtained a PhD degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, in a field relevant to the position (i.e., biology, biomedicine, medicine, chemistry). The degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the date of the employment decision. If there are special reasons, the PhD may have been obtained earlier.
Qualifications
- You have in-depth knowledge of regenerative biology, including dedifferentiation.
- You have experience working with aquatic salamanders or other salamander species.
- You have documented expertise in generating transgenic animal lines using CRISPR, Tol2, or similar techniques.
- You hold a PhD in regenerative biology, cancer biology, molecular biology, or similar.
- You have excellent written and spoken English.
Requirements for Employment:
- You have a basic understanding of the cell cycle.
- You have demonstrated the ability to independently lead a project.
- You have worked with aquatic species.
- You have previously studied cancer biology.
- You fit well with the existing staff in the group.
Other
The position is limited to 2 years full-time, with a possible extension of 1 additional year. The start date is June 1, 2026, or by agreement.
How to Apply
Applications should be submitted via the university's recruitment system. The application should include:
- Degree certificate for PhD
- CV, including publication list
- Cover letter describing why the project suits you (maximum one page)

Education is conducted in close collaboration with healthcare and is well anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. The faculty's research spans a wide field of experimental basic research, patient-oriented clinical research, and health science research. The Faculty of Medicine, with over 1,800 employees and 3,000 students in Lund, Malmö, and Helsingborg, is an intensive knowledge meeting place for students, teachers, and researchers from around the world.
The Department of Laboratory Medicine (ILM) is one of six departments at the Faculty of Medicine. We conduct leading research in the field of laboratory medicine, focusing on how diseases arise and how we can improve patient diagnostics and treatment. Some of our strongest areas of world-class research concern cancer, genetics, and blood research.
