Workplace Description

InfraVis (https://infravis.se/) is Sweden's national infrastructure for the visualization of scientific data. Currently, InfraVis employs over 50 experts across nine different universities. CIPA (https://www.cipa.lu.se/) is Lund University's local infrastructure for image processing and analysis. CIPA is also the coordinating unit at Lund University's InfraVis node, consisting of around 10 people with complementary expertise. InfraVis and CIPA offer all their experts various professional development opportunities and strive to meet each individual's goals for development and well-being to the greatest extent possible. By working as an expert within InfraVis/CIPA, you will have access to colleagues both locally and nationally for stimulating exchanges, discussions, and collaborative efforts to solve complex issues, develop new methods, and find the best ways to support research across diverse scientific domains throughout the country through visualization expertise.

Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility

The main task consists of contributing as an expert in various research projects supported by InfraVis (https://infravis.se/). To promote knowledge transfer and development of the research infrastructure and its experts, regular and active participation in various forms of joint activities, including meetings, is also required. The position includes opportunities for career and skills development of both general and specific nature.

The work will focus on image processing and visualization of images and volumes. The work may encompass one or more of the following areas:

  • Image processing and image analysis of tomographic data, such as synchrotron X-ray microtomography or lab-based X-ray microtomography.
  • Development of scientific visualizations.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced and driven individual who is easy to collaborate with and thrives in a complex research environment.

Requirements for employment are:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in a subject relevant to the position - for example, in natural sciences or engineering.

Additional requirements:

  • Excellent oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience in image processing and image analysis of images or volumes, e.g., in ImageJ/Fiji, Python.
  • Experience with visualization software, e.g., in Blender, DragonFly.
  • Knowledge of programming, e.g., in Python.
  • High motivation, with the ability to initiate and quickly learn new techniques, as well as excellent work and time management skills.
  • Good collaboration and communication skills.

Desirable for the position:

  • Proven experience collaborating with various stakeholders (researchers from different scientific domains).

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant's experience and competencies complement and strengthen ongoing activities within the infrastructure and how this can contribute to its future development.

We are looking for a research engineer for a specific temporary position for 2 months at 50% capacity. The desired start date is as soon as possible or by agreement.
