Workplace Description

SI-PASS (Collaborative Learning / Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a highly successful pedagogical model developed in the USA during the 1970s and has spread to many universities worldwide, including several institutions in Sweden.

As an SI leader at the Department of Environmental and Geological Sciences, you will be employed by the Faculty of Science's administration and receive your SI leader training from the European Centre for SI-PASS at Lund University. You will work closely with both teachers and those responsible for the SI program within the Faculty, as well as with other SI leaders, both within and outside your department and subject area.

Being employed as an SI leader provides you with leadership experience and you will receive attractive leadership training. Through SI leadership, you gain in-depth subject knowledge and pedagogical experience, as well as valuable professional contacts with both the faculty and other SI leaders and the student group. Experience shows that former SI leaders are highly competitive in the job market.

As an SI leader, you will also become part of a global network that includes SI programs and SI leaders in several countries (such as the USA, Australia, South Africa, Canada, the UK, and Ireland) and may be offered the opportunity to participate in international conferences and events.

Job Responsibilities

The Faculty of Science is seeking 2 SI leaders for the course:

Sedimentology and Structural Geology /GEOB33 / 2026-04-20 – 2026-06-07

In addition to preparing and leading SI sessions for the current course, you will also:

  • Market SI as a whole and your SI sessions in various ways.
  • Register and report attendance after each SI session.
  • Write a reflective report after each SI session.
  • Schedule your own SI sessions in collaboration with your SI coordinator.
  • Actively participate and sometimes prepare for the regular SI meetings called by your SI coordinator.
  • Collaborate with the course instructor to exchange information and facilitate planning.
  • Other tasks may also occur.

A prerequisite for your employment is that you attend (or have attended) the SI leader training held over two full days. The European Centre for SI-PASS offers the course to all prospective SI leaders at Lund University on several occasions. You will automatically be invited to the training upon employment.

Working hours are scheduled during teaching hours, i.e., Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00.

Eligibility

Eligible for employment as an assistant is one who is admitted to education at the undergraduate or graduate level at the faculty. A degree must not have been obtained.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • You have good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
  • You are admitted to a program relevant to the subject, have good academic results, and are on track with your studies.
  • You have passed the relevant SI courses, or a course that we assess as equivalent.
  • You are responsible, flexible, and willing to adapt to the needs of the student group.
  • You find it easy to collaborate with others.
  • You are self-driven.

Meritorious for the position are:

  • You have a grade of Pass with Distinction or higher in one or more of the relevant SI courses, or in a course that we assess as equivalent.
  • You have recently completed and passed the relevant courses, or another course that we assess as equivalent.
  • You are interested in pedagogy, group dynamics, and leadership.
  • You have leadership experience (in areas such as sports, scouting, or similar).
  • You have been recommended by your SI leader or a teacher.
  • You have completed SI leader training at Lund University.
  • You have previously worked as an SI leader.

Consideration will be given to how the applicant is assessed to complement and strengthen the work within the SI activities and contribute to its future development through their personal qualities, experiences, and competencies.

We are looking for 2 assistants. The employment is temporary for the current SI courses where the periods are indicated under the heading "Job Responsibilities" and involves a scope of 10%.

The employment must not negatively affect the assistant's studies. Regulations regarding educational employment as an assistant can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:284), Chapter 5, Sections 8-12.

At the Faculty of Science, research and education are conducted in astronomy, biology, physics, geosciences, chemistry, mathematics, medical radiation physics, environmental science, and physical geography. The activities are conducted within the northern university area. The faculty has about 1,900 students, 330 doctoral students, and 730 employees.

Administration N works with service and support to the faculty's management. We have special expertise in issues related to undergraduate and doctoral education, internationalization, higher education pedagogy, economics, IT, personnel issues, communication, career, and equal opportunities. We currently have about 30 people working in the administration.
