Department of Planning and Research Support

Project Coordinator at SLU Grants Office

Do you want to work in an inspiring environment and contribute to strengthening support for research and internationalization at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)?

We at SLU Grants Office are now looking for an experienced and enthusiastic project coordinator – someone who is self-driven, has good experience in managing projects, and wants to make a real difference for researchers at SLU.

About the job

As a project coordinator at SLU Grants Office, you will support researchers who are applying for or coordinating large collaborative projects with multiple partners. You will work together with the scientific leader and the institutional operational support during the initial phase of the project, and then transition to a more advisory role.

A central part of your work is to support and mentor the person at the institution who will gradually take over the role of project coordinator. Your support will taper off as the regular project coordinator takes over the tasks, thereby freeing up your expertise to support other projects. In this way, you will contribute to building competence and capacity at SLU to ensure quality in the administration and management of projects, especially EU projects.

You may support several projects simultaneously. The scope and design of the support will be adapted according to the needs for support and for effective use of your time.

More specifically, you will:

  • Support the scientific leader in work with budget, finance, planning, risk management, follow-up, reporting, documentation, and project meetings, etc.
  • Be a mentor and trainer for the person who will gradually take over the responsibility as project coordinator to support the scientific leader.
  • Be an advisor and educator in the area of project coordination.
  • Provide support for research grant applications together with other staff at SLU Grants Office.
  • Contribute to communication work, such as newsletters and web pages.
  • To some extent, the position may also include other tasks within the department's operational areas.

This list is not exhaustive and may change depending on SLU's needs. There is also room to propose new working methods and initiatives based on your skills and interests.

Your background

We welcome you to submit an application describing how you meet the basic and desirable (if relevant) criteria below. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability for the position. The work will involve periods of high workload, and it is therefore important that you have the ability to make well-considered priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining high quality. You need to be flexible and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Basic

  • University degree (in a relevant field).
  • Experience working in complex collaborative projects.
  • Good understanding of the conditions of academic research.
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.

Desirable

  • Experience in project management, preferably in research projects funded by the EU framework program.
  • Experience working independently with reporting on grant-funded projects.
  • Knowledge of financial and other regulations within the EU.
  • Experience in budgeting larger projects, including “lump sum” projects.
  • Experience in research support within higher education/universities or research institutes.
  • Experience working with accounting and follow-up of research projects.
